Saponins are steroid alkaloids that naturally occur in the Tribulus Terrestris plant. Saponins are the active ingredient in Tribulus, but their levels can vary depending on the preparation.

Standardization is a way for you to know that you are consistently getting a set, or standardized, amount of the active ingredient in each dose. So for instance, while a Tribulus capsule from one manufacturer might be 500 mg in weight, it may contain only 20% saponins. However, another 500 mg capsule by a different company might be standardized to 40% saponins, which means you can take half as many capsules to get the same dosage. It's important to understand this, since it can impact the cost-per-dosage.
