we're looking to get married around august or september... and our dream is to have a casual beach wedding with a bonfire and tiki torches... ya know, more beach party than stuffy wedding. any advice or suggestions is GREATLY appreciated... i can't find anything online... and beach clubs and hotels are crazy expensive. THANKS!

Seems like some of us are geographically challenged. You'll notice that some are actually in LA County. BTW, Pismo Beach is in San Luis Obispo County, and the city beach does not allow campfires. OK, from north to south: 1. Will Rogers State Beach- LA County 2. Mother's Beach (Marina Del Rey)-LA County 3. Dockweiler Beach- LA County 4. Cabrillo Beach- LA County 5. Bolsa Chica State Beach- Orange County 6. Huntington State Beach- Orange County 7. Corona Del Mar- Orange County 8. Doheney State Beach, but only if you get a beachfront campsite, and it can't be a huge bonfire- Orange County Of these, Bolsa Chica is my favorite. Corona would be my favorite, but the pits are too crowded and close together, and the parking lot is too small.

I would suggest that you splurge for a private area - maybe someone had beach front property that they'll let you use for a few hours.

I'm not from LA, but I saw a beach wedding on tv that was horrifying. There was kelp everywhere and strangers were all around because it was a public beach.

I want a beach wedding too, but I think it'll be worth it to cut back on other things to get a small private area.

How about a clambake on the beach? I would call the local parks committee in your area and ask about renting or having a party on the beach. Then speak to several caterers about doing a clambake. I know here on the East Coast it is not hard to find a caterer to do it!

Not all beaches have bonfire pits, so that's where you can begin...
