The heel is so dry and cracked because it is not an area to which people think to moisturise, same as the elbow joint.
It is an exposed area when no shoes are worn, it weight bears your weight when you walk and the down forces play up with the skin on the heel area....and, open heeled shoes are a major culprit to split heels.
Soak it at night or when possible with warm water. Towel Dry by dabbing the skin and apply an ointment that is lanolin based to hydrate the area.
Or, see a podiatrist , especially if you are diabetic and have problems with circulation, they can treat it effectively too.
Wear closed heel shoes whenever possible too.

soak ur infected foot in warm salt water 4 20 mins.dry it n apply medicated axe oil n bandage everyday.it's better if u take rest 4 3-4 days.u w'd find the cracked part healing slowly.

moisturize after you shower. Also, take one of those sanding tools by Dr. Scholl and rub it over your heels a few times a week. That will get rid of the hard, cracked skin.

my husband uses Arbonne Herbal foot cream, and i cant believe how well that stuff helped heal is cracked heals, he wears work boots everyday, so its really taken a toll on his feet. He swears by it, and I do too, since ive seen how great it works

there are ointments for that. ask your pharmacist. Just make sure you don't get dirt in the cracks.
