I want to promote an awareness of bullies in our school, what can I do?

I start the year by delivering a presentation to our grade 9 classes. I go through school policy, who they can go to for help and tell stories of encountes we have dealt with. I then have each student write and encounter they have witnessed or been part of. Then we act them out twice - the original and then with solutions. The kids LOVE this part. We also have a group of kids we know and trust keep an eye on things. These are usually our school leaders! They will watch out for new kids, kids that are higher risk to being bullied, and kids who are known to bully. They will advocate for kids who aren't confident enough to stand up for themselves and also let us know what is going on so we can deal with it (we NEVER disclose our sources). Incidences of bullying are up at our school but I don't see that as a bad thing. That means that kids are finally confident enough to report events and know that they will be dealt with effectively. Consequences include face to face meetings with the victim, all parents and admin - not a comfy place for a bully. We also hook them up with community service to develop empathy and also look at counselling options. They only get ONE warning!
Another thing we did with some kids is get different "personalities" together and play the "If you realy knew me, you'd know that..." to illustrate the point that we really are not that different. We get them together and ask them different things like who here has ever been called a loser, geek or freak, and then they have to go to one side of the room. They also get the chance to confront each other for times they have been bullied. It really is a powerful experience!
That is cool that you want to change things. You really do have the power but I will give you one last piece of advice. The bullies are not the main group you need to target. Your target audiance needs to be the bystanders! Bullies make up a small percentage of your school population, as do the victims. Your largest and most powerful group is the people that walk by and look away, the people who cheer it on, and the people who silently let it happen and say nothing! Empower your peers to stand up for one another instead of tearing each other down and you will slowly win the battle! Best of luck!

I'll try to answer when I quit laughing from Enigmas response. Really my friend, bullies hardly operate in a stealthy manner. The entire school body is most likely aware of them. And there are most likely a few students praying for their demise. There are two answers to avoid being prey...beat them or join them. And joining doesn't guarantee you won't be a victim eventually. Beating them usually requires only a little forethought and imagination, and a little help from your friends. But beware. Don't become the guilty party in the eyes of the administration. And remember...you are seeking to resolve an ongoing dilemma, not seeking revenge.

Try to dominate your whole school. First try to be more popular with some kids and try to make them obey you all the time. This requires social skills. If a few people find you popular then they will tell everyone positive stuff about ya so you will become more popular. Then ask if anyone wants to join your gang. When your gangs expands enough you can knock out the bullies.
One example:
Lure them into a classroom during break, setting traps.
Then get your gang on them after they are weakened from the 'trap'. Say to them you must join my gang or I will giv ya a black eye every break.
Every break you can have wars with them. You can make a strategy attack on them. When they are in the playground, you can attck through all directions and shoot stuff from the windows of your school block. When the teachers come make yourself the best position to escape. Or you can just be a strategist for your gang.

Actually it is not the best idea. Just dont show yourself to be too weak or too unpopular and don't retalliate if they hit you unless they are trying to see how strong you are

tell them to pay attention to you or you will beat them up.

leave threatening letters on the school door, and then act on said threats once everyone forgets about them. use yourself as an example in your bullying demonstration (by demonstration, I mean court)

forcefully invade the cafeteria and declare yourself emperor of the school, then have a royal proclamation.
