How bad/intense does the weather have to be for a flight to be delayed?

Visibility is less than a 1000 feet.

There really is not a set intensity that will cause a flight to be delayed. The site always shows the current delays for departure and arrival traffic to most of the major airports in the country.

It could be anywhere from a hurricane, tornado to a blizard just depends on where your going. If the city you are fly to or from is having some issues with the weather, lets say tonado warnings, strong winds, intense snow, blizard like conditions, they may delay some flights.

Planes often need to be de-iced. That causes delay.
