I am 16, but have been wanting a bunkbed because they are high up (I love heights!) and I can use the bottem bunk to store my pillow collection. What do you think?

Missy, Go for it! Be creative. There are fantastic loft systems (bunkbeds) that are flexible enough to create whatever space you may want underneath. They are available in twin, full and even queen sizes. Furniture can be both age appropriate and need specific. Check to see if you have an unfinished furniture store in your area, they often have this type of furniture at very good prices.
Imagine, underneath the bed you can have a bookcase with your pillow collection scattered about. Add a reading lamp or a television and you have created a great get-away spot! In your bedroom!!!

Hi Missy! You can absolutely have bunkbeds at your age too. They come in many different ways. I am an avid HGTV watcher and if you go to the dream-house they have up this year, you can see this amazing set of bunks they placed in one of the guestrooms. They are made for kids/adults alike, of course you should not exceed a certain weight (no punt intended :) but I am sure you still fit) The bottom would be an awesome place to store your pillow collection, or a dresser, or a desk, etc. It's up to you. Hopefully you will find the right bunk for you, and if you have to talk your parents into it, just show them the HGTV site. Good luck and sweet dreams. Ms. B.

You would need to get a wooden bed so that is will hold up. The metal beds only hold a certain amount of weight for a little kid. A good Idea is to get a futon on bottom so you can have a couch and if you have buds over they will have a full size bed. But during the most part you have a couch that takes up less space and will hold your pillows nicely.

They also have the ones where the bottom bunk moves as to put them in different directions if you like and also has some with desks under them...

I say go for it! Who cares how old you are?? Just make sure that you or whoever puts it together very well and tighten it often because the screws tend to come loose after a while. You could also look into a bunk bed that has a futon on the bottom so that you have a couch and a bed. I've also seen bunk beds w/desks underneath them, since you're 16, I'm sure you could use it!

Bunkbeds are cool! There is no problem with a teenager having bunkbeds! People won't think you are weird for having bunkbeds until you move in with a boyfriend/husband. And even if you're with your boyfriend, if you have your own room, it's normal!

i think bunkbeds are a great idea. they take up little space and when you have friends over, they have a place to hangout and stay. if you check prisons they have bunkbeds, military barracks, and anyplace room for people in a small space is needed bunkbeds are used

one thing i have done is use the top bunk and customize the lower for a desk/study area.just take the rails and bedding off and throw down your pillows or some beanbags for a cool little study area.and as for being just for little kids----stay a kid as long as you can and if you like bunkbeds go for it and have fun as a kid.

I had bunk beds in college. My roommate and I each had top bunks and underneath one we had a sofa, under the other we had some chairs. It was cool. We had the coolest dorm room.

Bunk beds can be for teenagers too - our college dorms have them. As long as you don't toss & turn a lot in bed, or wake up to go the to bathroom a lot!
