I have social anxiety and post traumatic stress, and although depression runs in the family... I dont feel depressed until the anxiety sends me into a panic attack (duh). I also have some anger. So I was put on 50mg "Sertraline" (Zoloft) once/day. AND 1mg Clonazepam (Klonopin) once/day. And did that regimen for 2 weeks, the Klonopin helped WONDERS, and I was able to go to Supercross with 52k people around me, no problem, but found that it wears off after about 3 hours.
So today, I go in to the dr. and she says to take half of the klonopin pill in the morning (0.5mg), and the other half at night. Then prescribes me 50mg Trazodone (take half a pill before bed).
She wont prescribe me any more klonopin, even though its obvious that it helps me... because I have had sessions when I havent taken it, and sessions w/ the dr when I have.. and there is a noticeable positive difference in my attitude and outlook.
How do I get the dr. to understand that if it is helping me, to refill it?!

Additional Info:
Im not just sitting at home freaking out. Im paranoid, and misinterpreting people and their words, and messing up school, and my current 2 year relationship is at risk- not to mention my job.
So hopefully you can understand my urgency, and perhaps why I dont have the clear mind to even remind myself that things take time to work.

Who is this doctor, is she a psychiatrist? If she is just your general practitioner or internist, you need to get to the right professional. Playing around with medications for social anxiety and PTSD is crazy. You need to be in counseling, which would work wonders, working out the problem, not making you a zombie on pills.
Get smart, stop popping pills to solve your issues, deal with them through counseling. Depending on them will get you some serious problems in the future.

The trazodone was first diagnosed for depression and now although it doesnt work very well for that, it does work well for sleep (its main side effect is drowsiness), your zoloft or sertraline is also for depression, then your klonopin or clonazepam is for anxiety and sleep. Out of all 3 the only one that is a controlled medication or has a possibility of addiction or abuse is the klonopin. It is in the same class as Xanax (alprazolam), Valium (diazepam), etc. From working in a pharmacy, the more you only ask for the klonopin and not the others makes you sound to the doctor like there might be "other" reasons for your requests, so she looks out for your best interests. Either sit and explain your situation to or doctor or choose another doctor, some doctors dont feel comfortable having there patients continually on controlled medications, while others work in this area.

Klonopin is an extremely addictive drug - this is why she is not jumping up and down in a rush to Rx you more of it than what you are taking. She's also right - if you split the dose - the effects won't wear off so quickly. Trazadone is a good drug too, give it a chance. SO many patients want to increase their Klonopin this week, then in two weeks, want to increase it again, then next month, please, please, please increase it. Trust me, it's even more depressing to wake up one day and realize that you have a prescription drug addiction! Your doctor is absolutely correct to exercise caution and to try every other possible solution before arbitrarily uping your dose of Klonopin. She wants what's best for you - she really isn't trying to work against you. She went to medical school and studied an incredibly long time to understand medications in a way that all of us lay people never will. Try trusting her a little, and work with her. Be a compliant patient, be willing to try methods other than what you've pre-decided is the only thing that will work. It's hard, but you can do it!

You might try asking the doctor why she won't increase your Klonopin. She may have a good reason. However, I have found that Trazodone works very well for social anxiety. Go ahead and give it a try for a while and see how you do on in.
I know it is very hard, but please try to think of a method so that you can take your medication as prescribed. You will find it works better that way.
Try working with your doctor, but if you do find out that she is not open to how you are feeling, then it is your right to change doctors.
Good luck to you.

Find another doctor.
A higher daily dosage of klonopin is clearly in order for you. If your doctor neglects to treat what you have identified as a need, then you need to find a doctor who will treat you.
Taking the modern klonopin-benzodiazepine to treat anxiety is safe, easy, and most importantly VERY EFFECTIVE.
Extreme anxiety is debilitating and can easily be treated with an adequate dosage of klonopin.
Switch to a doctor who will give you at least 2 mg a day.

Ya know too much of anything is dangerous. Do what your Dr. is telling you and quit diagnosing yourself. Try it for a month or 6 weeks then if your still anxious they can increase your klonopin to from the .50mg twice a day to 1mg twice a day. Give it time. Okay Don't push for more meds right away.

I have seizures and have resently lost my husband.
I was prescribed the trazodone 150 mg(Desyrel) for sleep and klonopim .5 mg for anxiety. They work very well. I am surprised you are able to stay awake. It takes high doses of anything for me because I am on so much medicine, but both together make me like I am drunk. Klonopin also is used for seizures. Desyrel also works for anxiety. Seems like she is just spcing them oiut for you. I suggest you give this some time. I have tried several.
