This will Mess With Your Head:

3 MEN GO INTO A MOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS $30, SO
EACH MAN PAID $10 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY $25, SO HE

SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH $5.

ON THE WAY, THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT $5 EVENLY BETWEEN
3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A $1 AND KEPT THE OTHER $2 FOR HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID $9 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL OF
$27, ADD THE $2 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = $29.

WHERE IS THE OTHER DOLLAR?

this riddle was asked yesterday...about the three ladies buying a T.V.

there is a total of 30 dollars
the hotel manager kept 25 (the charge)
each man got a dollar back, so total is 28
boy kept 2 dollars = 30.

The $ 1 is in the pocket of one of the 3 men. We cannot add the $ 2 kept by the bellboy to $ 27 paid by the men, it is already included in the $ 27 ( $ 25 to the desk man + $ 2 for the bellboy).

The men payed $25 for the room. The bellboy kept $2 and each man got a dollar back.

25+2+1+1+1=$30

Until the BellBoy gave the money back the total money in the pot was $35 ($30 from the 3 men and $5 from the desk). The BellBoy only gave $3 back so the $2 not reimburesed was additional money.

Let's work it through, OK?

Each man gave out $10 - (total = 3x$10 = $30).

So the total out of the room is $30.

Now, They each get back $1 - For $3 more coming back into the room. NOW the total out of the room is $30-$3 = $27.

That's all we care about - The trick here is that you're trying to add the $2 the bellboy kept back onto the amount out of the room to get back up to $30. It doesn't work that way.

The dollar isn't missing - the riddle is a math error that we have to catch. :-)

Hope this helps the explanation!

each man paid $10x3=$30
if they each receive a dollar back they still payed $10 each=$30
30-25=5 they get $1 back x3 and the bellboy gets $2

Dude..each man paid Approx 8 bucks..not 9...so thats 8*3 = 24...1 dollar that the bell boy kept and the 5 that was returned..thats 30..savvy?

Nope...The total was 28!

Because he kept 2...And they each got 1. 1 x 3 =3. 25 + 3= 28.

This is pathetic. I have your question on my watchlist. This has been driving me crazy for the last day. I can make it work out, just like everybody else did (30-1-1-1-2=25), but I'm still not satisfied. YOU'RE RIDDLE IS DRIVING ME ABSOLUTELY CRAZY!!!!!
