We have seen huge changes in what is considered moral and or not in the last 200 years. Slavery was legal and had wide spread support when the United States was founded. Racism was an institution the south even 50 years ago. Animal cruelty was not considered a problem. Women were considered inferior and not allowed to vote when my grandmother was young. You get the idea.

Why has this happened? I dont think you can say the church as all of these things were considered just fine for almost 2,000 years.

Three things:

(1) Advances of technology have made populations higher and more dense. That leads to people living in large communities, which means we need to be more tolerant.

(2) The decline of religion. Slavery, racism, and homophobia all find a shelter in religious conviction.

(3) The spread of democracy. This goes hand in hand with #2. Democracy says we're all equal, and that's morally empowering.

history repeats itself .... all throughout the bible and modern history as well ... people turn their backs on God and get immoral .... then they are destroyed and their nation broken up ... people think that getting loose morals is modern and we are so advanced now to forget God and celebrate our progressiveness .... nothing could be further from the truth ...
