Rooms at the Belvedere start at $165, but you can usually get a better rate from PriceLine or Orbitz or Hotels.com - This is a three-star hotel - spotless, great staff, located in the Theatre District and every room has a coffee maker, microwave and fridge - I always have my out of town guests stay here - and no one has ever had a single complaint.

There are five Apple Core hotels in Manhattan - they are inexpensive and the New York Times says they are all very clean (they are also in good areas)

If you are willing to share a bathroom, there are cheaper hotels. Be sure to read the reviews by other people who have stayed at whatever place you are interested in.
Queens has some nice moderately priced hotels.

Hello, you can visit http://booking.com/searchresults.html?aid=310070;sid=188f7f9f0348d4227393062834743c0c;checkin_monthday=16;checkin_year_month=2007-5;checkout_monthday=17;checkout_year_month=2007-5;class_interval=1;do_availability_check=1;region=2277;si=ai%2Cco%2Cci%2Cre;order=price for a list of hotels at Manhattan.
Give attention on guests reviews and comments. Many times the prices are really a bargain (pending also on the period you want to stay). I've used booking.com the last three years and I'm completely satisfied. Friendly to browse and easy to book on-line. Have a great time on N.Y.

Inexpensive, nice and Manhattan don't belong in the same sentence even, sorry.
What you are asking for is champagne on a beer budget. Of course to this does depend on your definition of inexpensive. Can you get "cheaper" ones, probably I'm sure. However I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole. Remember in anything in life you do get what you pay for and with Manhattan being one of the most expensive cities in the US, that tells you something right there.
Good Luck in your search, but try not to go to cheap or you will be quite disappointed and I would say then it would be a waste of money at that point.

Did you see on the news last night about a couple that spent their honeymoon in a hotel in New York City (Palmer House) and they have an offer that if you are married over 50 years you can spend your anniversary for the same amount you paid on your honeymoon. The couple had been married for 60 years and got the $1600.00 a night suite for $9.00. (You need to have the receipt)

Hotel 30/30 --- 150 - 200 is inexpensive for Manhattan. Anything cheaper isn't that nice.

First of all it's spelled M-A-N-H-A-T-T-A-N "Manhattan" with an A.
I know we SAY it "MAN-hat-en" but that's just how we talk here (we tend to pronounce our A's E's and I's the same way!) that's not how we spell it.
I would recommend the Hampton Inn - they have 6 hotels around Manhattan - call them and I'm sure you'll find that they're very reasonable.

You need to search for deals, I have gotten four star hotel suites for less than $200. I just booked today a 3.5 star studio suite in midtown for $159 a night. email me if you want the name/ website of the hotel.
