When was the last time Americans welcomed immigrants with open arms? We have always been exclusionistic and there has always been prejudice against new arrivals. (Think Irish and Italian immigrants for starters)

Why do people assume that we are anti immigrant? We want healthy, skilled immigrants to come in legally, and gain citizenship and assimilate just as every other American has... If their first act is breaking the law and then segregating themselves how does that speak well of them, Why would we want them?
We have our laws for a reason... If you don't like them and dont wish to obey them or think all Americans are hateful racisits then why come here in the first place?

Also, consider the fact that we are no longer much of a beacon of freedom.
Maybe we should inspire to live up to the image our national monuments represent rather than destroying them all.
Or maybe we could give it back to France.
mommy of six, if we only want healthy, skilled immigrants as you say, then we only want immigrants for our own gain, and it has nothing to do with the charitable spirit our nation used to demonstrate by accepting refugees of famine, poverty, and war. This is a good question.
And by the way, I am barely financially able to sponsor my WIFE'S legal immigration. Shouldn't we be able to accept lower-middle-class people who U.S. citizens decide to MARRY, or do you have to be rich or you're not welcome?

Don't you think accepting illegals who steal from Americans is a slap in the face of eveyrone who immigrated legally? I hope these illegas use the identities and break into the homes of every American traitor who thinks we should let them come in. Maybe then the fools will wake up. And the statue --- means nothing to me.

The United States welcomes more LEGAL IMMIGRANTS into the U.S. than all other countries combined, so what are you talking about???? The U.S. is, and continues to be a melting pot of people from nearly every country in the world. I stress LEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

it became a symbol of a welcome mat because people arrived by ship and legally...now they do not...should we have McDonald's arches next to Mexico be the new symbol of the welcome mat...besides if you read history books we have brought a stop to immigration before...i think it is needed again...we need to have time to allow people to assimilate into America before we can't recognize what is America anymore...we don't need mini separate peoples in America we need to be Americans first...then what ever heritage we came from...not the other way around...

No, why should it be? I mean, we welcome EVERYBODY who is willing to take the time to be legalized members of our society. The problem is that not many people are willing to take those steps and just look at America as one big hand-out and I believe that's wrong. To those that are willing to come here legally, I hope that you find everything that you thought that we should be, to those that are just looking for us to give you everything. GO BACK HOME, WE DON'T WANT YA!
