Sorry no such dog really exists, dogs are social pack animals they thrive under constant interaction with family and friends... no dog should "live outside" by itself.. they can and they do but it is not ideal... dogs need constant training, supervison, social interaction, mental stimulation, excercise, affection, socialization etc. No dog comes already "kid friendly" or "playful' there is alot of training involved in creating a dog that is well balanced. All dogs shed, some more than others... the only dog that does not shed is a hairless dog. Putting a heater in the "dog cage" will do nothing in reality... it isnt the cold that you should worry about it is the isolation.. dogs do not do well if they are simply left to their own devices most of the time.. dogs that are chained or caged are something like 80% more likely to develop behaviour problems. As I said it takes a huge amount of commitment to training etc to make a dog kid friendly, playful in a safe and acceptable way, well adjusted, well behaved, socialized. No dog comes already premade to fit your requirements even in breeds the temperament is only a guideline.. all dogs are individuals and all dogs require ALOT of commitment, dedication and training to become good canine members of society.

Don't get a dog if you're going to leave him outside in unstable temperatures. If you're not prepared to let the dog inside and be with his pack, do NOT GET A DOG! A heater will do nothing in freezing temperatures. Nor will a fan or lots of water help in very hot weather.

A Labrador Sounds Like The Perfect Dog For You. But They Shed. I Have Spent 16 Years With Nothing But Labs & I Know They Are Perfect With Kids. My 5 Year Old Sister Plays Outside With Our 2 Labs & She Gets In The Pen With Them. They Are Very Protective Of Their Owners. Jessica (The Sister) Gets In The Dog House With Them & They Love Her. We Also Had A Lab That Was Stolen But He Was With Me My Whole Life & Got In Several Fight In Order To Protect Me. I Am Putting Emphasis On The Kids Because I Thing It Is Very Important For You To Trust Your Dogs With Kids. I also Wouldn't Recomend Shelter Dogs If You Have Children. You Dont Know Their History. If They Were Abused They Might Attack If You Child Played With Them Wrong. But Labs Are The Perfect Family Dog. I Trust My Life With My Labs. If You Need More Info. On Labs Just Ask. I'm Sure Kelly C. (Down A Few.) Meant Well With Her Answer But Some Dogs Like Labs & Golden's Do Come Kid Friendly. Of Course Your Kid Can't Be Abusive & Expect It Not To React ( With Training & Time My Animals Had No Reaction To 5 Years Of Abuse By My Sister.) But Some Dogs Are Kid Friendly. Some Like Pit Bulls Can Be Trained & Have To Be Trained But There Are Kid Friendly Dogs Out There.

To be honest I probably would not get a dog. I'm not trying 2 be mean but dogs r pack animals and LOVE and need 2 be with u not stuck outside all lonely and bored, no breed of dog wants that life. All I ask is that u reconsider getting a dog.

an outside dog will shed some coat in the spring.
I have a chocolate Lab, he stays outside all the time (except for hot humid summer days) Our kids are grown, but we do have grandkids. No problems

Why do you want a dog just to stay outside. A dog is your friend and belongs with you inside. If you don't want to have a dog, don't get a dog. And why would it matter if it shed outside?

Labrador retrievers, German shepherds, both are friendly and protective of kids. It is usually a good move to go to a rescue agency or pound. Dogs from those places have a way of knowing you saved their life and are incredibly loyal.

I see nothing wong with your dog if he likes to stay outside. Any dog is a good dog as long as it has good temperment and is well behaved.
