I bought (rescued) my beagle pup from a young couple in my neighbor hood who really couldn't afford her or the vet bills that go along with having a pet. She had been given to them by family member who had breed theirs but had no papers. It's obvious she's a pure breed beagle by markings, characteristics and personality, even my vet agreed. I've always been told it's best to allow a dog to breed at least once before having them spade to settle them down. There was even a conflict at the vet's over this. So, what I want to know is if I breed her with another beagle would anyone be interested in the pup's with no papers, or should I just get her spaded and be done with it. I know I bought her for $100.00, but I had too, she broke my heart. She and my cat and older dog have become the best of my friends. Anyway I'm sure if I do breed her, I'll have to ( oh God!) keep one, but I can't keep all of them! Would there be anyone who would want one with no papers?

She is a very loving and beautiful 7 month old now and had 1st heat, so it would be the next one I would need to breed her or have her fixed. Would I be able to find a male to breed her with since she has no papers?

Let me rephrase a bit so no one is offended thinking I just want to add dogs to the unwanted population. That's not it at all. Beagles make great family pets and are good with kids, I wouldn't want to sell, give to families who can care for and want one. I would hate to ruin an opporunity that could give someone years of happiness. And I do know some about breeding, my father bred Dobermans when I was growing up. Yes, I'm concerned with the animal pop, and unwanted ones too, that's why both of my dogs and the one cat were rescued.

Do a search for "Beagle" on Petfinder.com and see how many beagles there are out there already who need homes. And that's just the dogs who have made it to Petfinder.
Get your dog spayed. Don't add to the problem.

Do your dog a huge favor and get her spayed. Even if she had papers, that's all they are is papers. The only reason anyone should EVER breed a dog is to continue and improve the breed standard. There are way too many homeless dogs out there, and unfortunately, its because of 1)irresponsible owners 2) The misinformed but well intended owner(they think the dog should have a litter before being spayed) 3) the idiots who actually believe that there is money to be made in breeding and 4) the puppies or kittens that result from owner number 2. I work for a vet and I have volunteered at our local humane society and unfortunately I see the results, everyday, of pet owners. Be kind and get her spayed.

There are more than enough unwanted dogs in the world. There is no need to breed a dog before getting her spayed. Just get her fixed.
A person should only breed a dog that is a very good representative of their breed, and this is determined by showing the dogs. Only dogs from championship lines should be bred, to improve or keep the best traits of the breed. Pet dogs should not be bred even if they do have papers. Go to the shelter and see all the unwanted dogs, spay her now.

Allowing them to breed one time or have one litter before being altered is for the owners, not the dog! Get her spayed. If you're trying to pass off pups in here, you're just asking for ugly comments.........do not put yourself on the list with all the other BYB.
Addition: You want to breed a 1 yr old? No female should be bred until she is at least 2 yrs old and genetic health testing is done and exceptional results come back.

You do not need to let a dog be bred before you have them altered. It is irresponsible and slightly stupid to think that dogs need to have a litter, they aren't human. They don't know that they are missing out on anythiny. They are animals, they don't have wants and desires the way humans do, that's called anthropomorphism. Dogs are much healthier if they are fixed prior to going into a heat or tying with a female. With every heat the dog goes through, the risk of mamory cancer increases at a much higher rate. There are already plenty of people out there who have mixes and accidental puppies that have no papers, don't add to the overpopulation in the shelters. Be responsible and get her spayed.

I. Have. One. Single. Word.
DON'T!!!! It is NOT best to breed once before spaying, most vets will tell you do it before first heat. It reduces complications.
Also: You sound like you don't know CRAP about breeding. You have NO idea what her pedigree is, what genetic health problems run in her family tree, or what health tests to run on her before breeding!!
Do. Not. Breed. Get that dog spayed as soon as possible, We don't need more senseless people adding to the dog population.
You have no idea what you're getting into. For the sake of your dog and her would-be future pups: don't do it. It's risky even with the most experinced, best breeders.
Sorry for being . . .female-doggish. But what is it with you people? You think just because you have a female dog, it gives you liscense to breed.
Think again.

You are going to hear lots of reasons not to breed. You already know about pet over population - you said that yourself. Some of the other posts talked about the health aspects.
I have a different point to make that I hope you will consider if nothing else.
If you choose to breed her, you need to be prepared for the worst. Some or all of the pups could die. Some or all of the pups could be sick and need expensive medical care (or worse - you'd have to euthanize a puppy or all of the puppies for some reason).
The worst thing - and this is the worst thing, but you do need to consider this, your beloved girl could die giving birth or die from complications of giving birth.
Forget all the rest of the arguments you hear. I just want you to ask yourself are you willing to risk losing her? It may not happen, but it could.
Thanks for considering this.

Get her fixed and be done with it. Getting an animal fixed does NOT change its temperament in any way, shape or form. It just keeps them from learning 'sexual' behaviors (like humping and marking) if done early enough. Spaying also does NOT cause obesity, overfeeding does. And having pups will not change her personality, either. Actually it is BEST to spay before the first heat cycle, as this reduces the dog's lifetime risk of mammary cancer to zero. Getting her spayed before 2 also reduces the risk of mammary cancer, but not by as much as spaying before the first heat. Also, puppies recover from surgery much faster than adult dogs do. Their metabolism is higher, so they heal quicker and act less painful too.

You should NOT breed a dog before getting her spayed. Mammary cancer is very common among female dogs, and the longer you wait to get her spayed, the greater her chance of getting mammary cancer.
For example, if you get her spayed before her first heat, she has a less than 1% chance of getting mammary cancer. However, with each heat that goes by without getting her spay, you are increasing her chance of her getting cancer.
My dog had mammary cancer. Please get your dog spayed now to keep her from experiencing the same thing. Having your dog give birth before spaying does not and will not "calm her down," and only contributes to the pet overpopulation problem. For each home your dog's puppies get, a homeless dog in the shelter misses out on a home.

A dog without papers is just a mutt. Yes you can find dogs to breed with her. Let her out the front door without a leash or collar and she whii take care of that herself. Will you be able to sell the pups for money, that depends on how dumb they are.
