I just looked in the mirror and my eye has a pink swollen ring around it. It itches a little bit, but not much. I don't wear contacts. I'm not sure if it's pink eye or not. If it is, what would be a good and quick way of getting rid of it? How long does it take to heal by itself?

oooh. i HATE pink eye. I got it in college. It's horribly contagious. The most telling sign is if your eye is bloodshot and if it leaks. You'll know what I mean by leaking if you really have it. When you wake up, it'll be crusted shut. Really gross. But the bloodshot is a key indicator. "Swollen ring"? like around the outside? Bloodshot, I mean the whites of your eye is red-veiny.
I'm not sure about the home remedies like rubbing a gold ring in your eye or putting baby shampoo in your eye. If you really have pink eye, you need to get a prescription and get the eye drops.

WASH your hands! don't touch your eyes!
Good luck! i hope you don't have it!

You need to buy baby shampoo and wash out your eye with it three to four times a day. If it doesn't improve over the next week but gets redder it will need an antibiotic drop. Pink eye is very conmtageous, stay away from any family members and bleach anything that you use to clean it, like washcloths and pilowcases which you should change nightly. If it's true pink eye it won't go away on it's own but if it's just a mild infection the baby shampoo may get rid of it. Good luck.

Try a tea bag - oh dont look at the screen like that .. its an old remedy - make a cup of tea .. and place the teabag on your eye (but not too hot), the acid from the tea will relieve the pain and itch and draw the toxins out

i have never had pink eye before but its basicly a cold in your eye like a regular cold and colds go away on there own so you may not have to do anything ...... but to be on the safe side use hot compresses(face clothe with warm water ) on your eye and DONT ITCH IT for it may spread if you see it getting worse instead of better consult a doctor and try to keep the contacts out for a while
