A Guru, is a teacher in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sikhism, as well as in many new religious movements. Based on a long traditional line of philosophical understanding as to the importance of knowledge, the guru is seen in these religions as a sacred conduit, or a way to self-realization. The importance of finding a true guru is described in the scriptures and teachings of religions in which a guru plays a role. IE= MAN

God or Krishna is also called guru, not just a guru but Jagat-guru,
because He gave Bhagavad-gita, the instructions for the benefit of the whole world. He gave instructions according to the different persons nature, Karma-yoga, Jnana yoga, Dhyana yoga. Though He has given different processes, he also gives Bhakti yoga as the only way one can reach him. Ultimately He advises in the Bhagavad-gita(18.66),
"Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear."
Guru is one who is giving the same teachings of Krishna or God, and is telling that one surrender to Krishna or God. There is no difference in the teachings of guru and jagat guru(Krishna). Therefore, guru is the representative of Krishna or God.
Guru is of three types;
1. Vartmapradarsaka guru or Patha-pradarsaka-guru -who guide or who shows the way along the spiritual path and leads him to a initiating spiritual master or instructing spiritual master.
2. Diksa guru- the spiritual master who initiates according to the regulations of the scriptures by giving the mantra.
3. Siksa guru- the spiritual master who gives instructions for the spiritual elevation of the disciple.
Generally the Siksa guru becomes the diksa guru.

We all know the words of the famous poet Kabir Das which are as follows:
GURU GOVIND DOVU KADE KAKE LAGAI PAI
BALIHARI GURU APNE GOVIND DIYO BATHAY........IN HINDI.
Kabir meant to say that if both God and Guru are standing before him at the same time,then we would offer his first namaskarams to his Guru.It's so because God has created the entire world.He projected his creatures by giving them life onto this planet Earth.
If these are all God's magical power then it's the power of the Guru to enlighten the people on this earth.It's through the teachnings of guru itself that removes the ignorance from us.We realise the path to God through the words of the Guru.Thus a Guru is a direct descendant of God who makes us realise God...!
"Gurur Brahma Gurur Vishnu Gururdevo Maheswaraha
Gurursakshat parar Brahma Tasmai Sree Guravenamah"
