well sense you already told your mom am sure, she will tell your dad how nice your boy friend is.
just tell him and leave the rest to your dad to trust you all to freak out like most dad do. just kidding some dad are really understanding just give it a shoot, am sure you freak out when you told your mom,now it's fine with her right?

How old are you? Why do you think your Dad will be angry if he will find out? I mean the best thing to do is to tell him the truth. It would be more upseting if he finds about this from other people. Be honest before its too late.
