First there was "the way", which is what the earliest Christians called their church. After those early years, Christian churches under a number of bishops were established with the Bishop of Rome as a leader among them. Up until 1054, the Roman and Orthodox churches, including the Coptic church, were in full communion with each other. In that year, a schism (splitting) of the churches began because of the widening disgreement over papal authority and whether the Holy Spirit proceeded only from God the Father or from God the Father and Son. The RC's believed that the Pope was the supreme Christian ruler on earth and that the Holy Spirit came from both the Father and Son aspects of God. The Orthodox churches disagreed. The Coptic church is based on the Gospel of St. Mark, who established Christianity in Egypt. The Athenasian and Nicene creed originated in the Coptic community. So you have these two major branches of Christianity divided over who rules the church and the origin of the Holy Spirit. Then, in 1517, a German monk who was troubled by the growing power and iniquity of the Roman Catholic church, criticized the Church's misuse of power. This monk, Martin Luther, was not the only person to feel that the Church had strayed from the original teachings of Christ. What came to be know as the Reformation swept through Europe and started the splintering off into sects that your talking about. The Baptists, specifically, came from one of the earliest Reform churches, the Church of England. The reason they split off was a difference in belief about infant baptism and church authority (again!). In fact, I'm realising as I type this that almost all the splits in the Christian church were due to a difference of opinion about who should be at the head of the church and what practices of beliefs the church should have.

Catholic, Coptic, & Greek Orthodox all believe in Apostolic Succession, meaning that the leadership of these 3 Christian Churches can be traced all the way back to the Apostles.

The Catholic Church traces the Papacy all the way back to St. Peter.

The Greek Orthodox Church traces the Patriarchy all the way back to St. Andrew.

I do not know for sure, but, I believe that the Coptic Church traces its Papacy all the way back to St. Mark.

Baptists are Protestants. Protestant Christianity has no Apostolic Succession, since Protestants broke away from the Catholic Church in the 15'th Century.

WELL.

Not necessarily the same Holy Book-- some people believe there are more books in the Bible than there actually are. Plus, for instance with the Catholics, the form of governing the church isn't Biblical. There are other differences as well and I'm interested to see the other answers on this one.

The difference is that they choose to split hairs over relatively irrelevant things & therefore take the focus off the true meaning of the gospel which is very simple....Jesus Christ died for our sins. If we believe in Him & call on Him to be saved we are. That's why "religion" is so dangerous & why so many "religious" people are dying & going to hell. They would rather focus on & arugue about doctrine rather than just believe & accept salvation. Best to read the Bible yourself then find the church that most closely matches what you believe is the truth based on your understanding of the Bible. No church is perfect. There are hypocrites in all. Don't stay out of church because of them. Go for the right reasons, to worship & to learn & God will bless you for it.

Actually, Protestant denominations took certain books out of the Bible when they separated from the Catholic Church. They have less books, so the Bibles are not the same.

This site compares them on many different subjects:

Sects and movements of many types came to being, due to new interpretations of the Bible, the teachings of new prophets and thinkers, the expectation of Christ's second coming, and the current social, scientific, and philosophical questions.
I hope it helps.
