I mean the intro...8 week deal before you're a part of it...do you get paid for that?

First of all if you join the Air Force or Navy you are a wimp. Of course I am biased because I am in the Army. I think everyone in the service make fun of the Air Force and I know for a fact everyone makes gay jokes about the Navy. As far as the Army or Army Reserves is concerned, YES you get paid during Basic Combat Training. But the Army pays better (fastest promotions and you pick your job because we are the largest) and you earn more respect. There is no monetary value for respect!

Most people only join the other two because they are trying to get the benefits without the danger. Be a man, stand up, earn respect. Army Strong!

PS I am an Army recruiter. You can email me if you wish: Nathan.Kerr@USAREC.Army.MIL

In the Army, the start rank is up to E-4 which is roughly $1,700 monthly plus free housing, utilities, food, medical, dental and if you are active duty free college while you serve plus $37,000 more for college when you get out.

Clarification and Proof!!!!!!!!! Because of a below poster who wants to be proven wrong.

YES THE ARMY AND NAVY ARE ON THE SAME PAY TABLE. BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE PROMOTION RATES- THE ARMY HAS THE ABSOLOUTE FASTEST PROMOTIONS WITH EVERY SOLDIER GUARANTEED E-4 WITHIN 24 MONTHS AND MOST GETTING IT IN LESS THAN 18 MONTHS! CHECK MY SOURCE BELOW!

So if you are at ahigher rank for many months longer than your counterpart, you earn much more on a cumilative basis and a regualr basis as well as retirement pay.

Sgt Kerr, you should be ashamed of yourself telling falsehoods like that! "The Army pays better" just isn't true at all and you should know that if you are a recruiter.
A E-1 in the Army makes the same as a E-1 in the Marines, Navy, Air Force etc. Same with E-2 thru E-9, and the pay scale is set by Congress.
To the person asking the question, yes you get paid while in basic training, but alot is taken out of the first few checks, so you won't become a millionaire for sure!

Yes you will be paid during BCT and any advanced training you recieve. You will also be paid for any drill weekends you attend before and after training. The amount you make will be based on your pay grade, and there may be deductions depending on what benefits you enroll in. For the Army, if you purchase uniforms prior to basic, you will be reimbursed, however I believe that the Navy does not.

Yes, you get paid. Doesn't matter what reserve or branch your in you always get paid because you have to buy stuff in training anyway.

When I went Army reserves, I went to my reserve unit before I went to basic and got paid for that, so i got paid before I even graduated from my basic training and MOS training (my job training) and then got paid in Basic and MOS training. I went to prep training and got paid for that to. So yea.

I think you get an installment of your salary, but they charge you for your clothes and toiletries. So none or little is left
