Are we so naive to think we are fighting a war over oil, when it's really a religious war? There, that makes a little more sense, but not much.

I think it's a war over a lot of things...and I don't think oil is the highest thing on the list. I think the whole thing was a Bush miscalculation. His Saudi allies were being pressured by their religious extremists because of US forces there. We looked for other areas to deploy from, and look...there's Iraq...a weakened nation that we'd had prior conflict with. We figured we'd be able to set up a puppet Government...and the location...right between Syria and Iran....would apply pressure to enemy nations.

His miscalculation was assuming we'd be able to set up a puppet government.

I think oil, religion, and markets also all played a role.

Why oil? If we wanted oil why not go after Venezuela which we could defeat in a heartbeat and build a pipe line to the U.S. using mexican labor which whould benefit Mexico. It is a religious war with Iraq which has nothing to do with oil.

humans have been fighting over natural resources for thousands of years.

If this is a war over oil then it would make a lot more sense and a lot more justified then a religious conflict.

It is a religious war, but you wont get the government to say it is.

Your overgeneralization won't help you here. There are multiple reasons for fighting this "war"--not just one. Religion and oil are just two of the things that factor into our motivation for its genesis and continuence.

This war has multiple reasons for being fought. not only oil. power status. humanity. democracy. but i believe that trying to establish a democracy in a land that not only doesnt understand it but spent their entire existence condemning it? why bother? its a waste of time in my opinion.
