if you look at the list of countries that still do capitol punishment, most are communist/military regimes... i don't see why we still do it??!

i don't get how all these christians say 'turn the other cheek' on sunday, but on monday it's 'flip the switch and kill the bastard!'

I don't know but last year, the United States executed 98 inmates, ranking behind China (at least 1,077), Iran (165), and Saudi Arabia (103) but ahead of Cuba, Thailand and Uganda.
In a recent death-penalty study by Columbia University law professor James Leibman. The report, the most thorough to date on capital punishment in the United States, examined 4,578 death-penalty cases between 1973 and 1995. It concluded that the state courts had committed errors 68 percent of the time and that convicted suspects were later proved innocent in 7 percent of the cases .

I do know we keep embarrassing company. I didn't see one country on the list of countries that still have the death penalty we can be proud of. And "we're better than Saudi Arabia" doesn't exactly set the high bar you'd think we should expect in America.

Well I will tell you I feel a lot safer walking down the street of most American cities and town’s than most other cities and towns in the rest of the world with western Europe/Canada/Japan/New Zealand/Australia the exception.
Not sure what your point is to your question? Other countries do far worse than the US but Europeans for example could care less they seem fixated that the US has a Death penalty.

fixedinse, said it right , read his ans, America has the largest population of prisoners in the world including North Korea or China, our executions I have not been able to get good info on, but when we consider the episode in Illinois and Los Angles where so many men were convicted to death and a reporter got interested and with the F.B.I. PROVED OUT OF 47 IN ILL, AND SEVERAL HUNDRED IN CALIFORNIA was proven innocent I just wonder where we stand, and this is a Christan nation????

At least we only execute people for capital crimes of a very serious nature. In Muslim countries like Iran, 16 year old girls are hanged for defending themselves from rapists, and women are stoned to death for being SUSPECTED of adultery.

Thats because all the other countries, like China, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc.......lie like hell about how many people they kill. That is a very BLATANT LIE ! We imprison far more than we kill, and for the others they kill far more than they imprison.
