G'day,
There are 2 ways to help making up your decision.
1. The study. First of all you will need to find out which institutions offer the area of study. Best way to do this is by visiting www.idp.edu.au. It is an organisations owned by the Australian Vice-Chancellors committee and you can browse the kind of study you want, the level and what sort of services or amenities that the institutions offer. At this stage, browse for all the universities in Australia.
2. The weather. As you have already mentioned that you would prefer somewhere warm during winter, then I strongly suggest that you limit your choice to the states of Northern Territory, Queensland or New South Wales (border to Queensland). Even though Western Australia has some tropical area, all of the universities are centralised in Perth, which is the South-Western of the state. So it still can be abit cold in winter.
3. The place. With a lot of wildlife, I would suggest you narrow it down to the institutions in the countryside. Some universities in the countryside are James Cook Uni, Uni of Southern Queensland, Charles Sturt Uni, Newcastle Uni etc.
So there you are. Hope this helps in finding out the institution and the city you would like to study in. All the best and good luck.

It all depends what you are studying. July to December is from winter to summer. Sydney is mild in winter, warm in summer. You have eight universities to choose from bordered by Newcastle, Bathurst and Wollongong with five in Sydney itself. There are campuses of other universities in Sydney as well. There are penguins in Sydney Harbour.
If you want kangaroos in the front yard, Canberra is the place to go for that and ANU is a very good university. The city closest to the bush is Adelaide with two good universities in Adelaide and Flinders. Hobart is also close to the bush but it gets cold in winter. Perth os OK but it is too far from anything else in Australia if you want to see anything. Brisbane is warm most of the year and has beautiful winters but it has wet summers.
All Australian cities have wildlife parks and most have zoos specialising in Australian animals so there is plenty to see.

Of course Brisbane. Best weather, best people, best education! Brissy is in Queensland which has Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin's Zoo) and we are right near the Gold Coast (30min-1 hour drive away) where there are heaps of beaches and about half an hour away (on the way 2 the gold coast) we have 4 theme parks; Wet 'n' Wild (water park), Dreamworld (my fave, also includes White Water World), Sea World and Movie World (i think the name is pretty self explanatory!)...so yea...Brissy rules! :D

I love Brisbane. It is very provincial and backwater so it is not Cosmopolitan spoiled like Sydney or Melbourne. It is on the beach and hot all year. It is a big town, not really a city despite its size of half a million people.
