I know how bad it sucks to be so close to dinner time and find out your meat is no good. You probably don't have another meat thawed out or bought to take it's place, and it is so tempting to talk yourself into thinking there is nothing wrong with it, that's probably why you came here to ask us, you want someone to tell you it's okay to eat it. It's not though, toss it out and eat cereal for dinner.

For starters, what did the meat smell like when you opened up the package? If it was bad, believe me, you'd know! The onions and carrots should be fine. Maybe there was something spilled on the stove. In all my cooking years, I've never cooked something and it smelled like ammonia!!

I wouldn't take a chance on it. Cooking meat should smell just like cooking meat. Any other smell is a bad sign... I would complain to the market where you bought it and get your money back!

Thats kind of freaky. Food shouldnt smell like ammonia, maybe your pan or the stove was bleached when last cleaned? or theres something on the stove element? Onions and carrots are supposed to smell yummy not poisonous.

Yes THROW IT OUT
Its probably the meat. Unless your potato was horribly rotten.
The meat is spoiled. Call the store IMMEDIATELY tell them the cut of meat, and that its spoiled. Keep your receipt...if the store has any integrity at all they will refund your money.
