I recently moved to a new house which I now find is haunted by a ghost. Most of the time it is quietbut it likes to walk about and make a noise in the night usually between 3am and 4am. It also seems to dislike visitors and causes most trouble when I have guests. Recently at a dinner party a plate flew off the dresser and landed about 6 feet away. It also likes to move paintings on the wall. How do I encourage it to go away?

***OK IT'S TIME TO EXPLAIN.***
Firstly of course there's no such thing as ghosts.
I posted this question as an experiment to see how many gullible people there were who would just believe any old rubbish they're told.
I decided to leave the question for 30 minutes and see what answers I got...(I got 16)...would some fruitloop really believe me and recommend an exorcism?
Or would the sensible people prevail and correctly point out that there are no such things as ghosts and actually tell me that I'm lying?
Well its good to see that there are some people who aren't gullible and didn't believe a word of it.
But oh dear...it seems a 50-50 split, as I attracted a similar number of the hard of thinking who are really stupid enough to believe what a stranger tells them.
I especially liked the advice to sit down, talk it over and and reason with my 'ghost'....what a complete wallybrain!!

This is a spiritual matter,
"For we do not battle against flesh and blood but by the rulers, powers and authorities in the spiritual realms"
What what ever reason it thinks it has a right to be there, but if it was me, i would not tollerate such a thing in my home, in needs to get the hell out, how dare it dwell in your place of rest, you have every right to live at peace without such intruptions.
There is something that is still giving it thr right to stay there,,, what could it be?
Think about the possesions you own?
any spititual books, or material, or idols (god carved of wood or stone)?
Most likely it has nothing to do with youm but the former people that lived in the house invited it in, through some type of action, or spiritual practice.
I hate these types of annoying gosts/spirits, they give me the creeps,
The only one fully qualified to remove it is Jesus Christ, but only a spirit filled born-again Christian has the right to cast out this gost in the Name and authority of Jesus Christ.
Speak to someone like this that you know, or contact a pastor/ ministor of a Christian Church, and get the stinking thing the hell outta there.
God Bless

Nice so you asked this question just to insult the people who have different beliefs than your own? How would you know there are no such things as ghosts? Have you ever died? Talk about mean spirited.

We had the same problem in our old house, got to the point that my husband was being hurt on a regular basis. We called our local spiritualist church and they sent people out to "clear" the house. When they had done that I got the local vicar to come in and bless the house.
People will mock you, but I know how scary it can be.
The other alternative is to ask this ghost what it wants, I dont know if that will work for you.
The spiritualist church will be free of charge and it usually works.
Good luck with it.
The link below will help you to find your local church.

Well, depending on your denomination, you could ask for an exorcism. I know that Catholics and some Lutherans will perform that ceremony, and I think that Episcopals do, too.
I know that there is something in my house, too. I see shadows and things out of the corner of my eye. I saw the top of a head go by the foot of my bed one night. I have kids, but they were all in their beds. And my husband felt something on the bed by his legs, and thought it was my oldest daughter. He looked, and there was nothing there. He woke me to see if there was anything there, and I felt the indention in the bed as if something was lying there, but I saw nothing. There are also noises. I finally asked whatever it is to please stop doing things that freak me out, and nothing has happened since.
Good luck!

This works. Go in each room of the house and say out loud (because spirits cannot read your mind, only God can do that) I rebuke you in Jesus Name get out of my house. They have to obey, they don't have a choice, as we do. They may try to argue, just keep telling them in Jesus name, in Jesus name. I have had experience in this area and this works!!!

You can't get rid of them. Best you can do is talk to them, reason with them and try to live peacefully with them. Just absolutely DO NOT call them out and look for a confrontattion because you will lose.
