Became a province in 1905 along with Saskatchewan. They were part of the Northwest Territories before that. Only Newfoundland joined later in 1949.

Population of 3,413,500 in 2006, the 4th largest province. Edmonton is Capital 1,050,000 - 6th largest city in Canada. Calgary is the largest city in Alberta - 1,107,200, 5th largest in Canada.

6th largest province by area, 661,848 square kms. Mostly a Prairie province, but shares the Canadian Rockies on the boarder with BC.

The province is oil rich. With recent higher oil prices and improved oil extraction technology (cheaper) the Alberta economy has been booming.
