Iams is a fairly low quality dog food with lots of fillers (fly-who is 100% wrong on this). It's not Wal-Mart generic bad, but it's pretty close.

I recommend slowly changing to a better food like Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance (BALANCE!!!), Wysong, Evo, Solid Gold, or similar. All these use only human grade ingredients, have no fillers, and are of the highest quality.

Small dogs can easily have energy level swings. Feeding a better diet can help maintain a more constant level.

Considering that Iams is full of fillers like corn, sorghum, wheat, etc and that your dog is not an herbivore...however much time to make a lot of smelly poop. 12-18 hours at least. Are you all guessing about the time it takes humans? It takes 18-30+ hours for food to digest in a human, NOT 2-4 hours. *eye roll*

It depends. I know that my Westie had problems digesting food or any food that was new to him. Be sure to stick to one type of food. Don't switch it around. I recommend Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul. Type it into Google and you can find a store that sells it near you. Just remember, Chicken Soup isn't sold in pet stores like Petsmart or Petco. You'll have to do some research. My current dog has had great success with his this dog food. REMEMBER! DON'T SWITCH THEIR FOOD. SETTLE ON ONE AND KEEP IT.

It takes up to 4 hours for pups to digest any food. Why are you feeding it IAMS. I personally think it awful food. Their are many good natural dogs food on the market now. Please ask your vet for advice about the kinds of food that are out there.
Now if your worried about car sickness then it would be better not to feed the pup his/her full amount of food before going in the car. If he really not a good car pup then the vet can give you something to help your pup have a much more pleasant car ride.

digestion in dogs usually happens within 2-4 hours.
Why did you ask? Are you worried about her bowel movements?
Remember that IAM's is a high-quality dog food that gets digested very well and thus leaves very little bowel movement....
