Looking for recommendations or opinions on some items I have/don't have in my itinerary. We will only be in NYC Mon-Fri and want to make the best use of our time. Please advise with opinions or alternatives to the following: The Biltmore Room, Casa Bella in Little Italy, Chikalicious, Grimaldi's, Joe's Shanghai, Magnolia Bakery, PignWhistle, River Cafe, Surya, Nirvana, Serendipity, Tavern on the Green, Ground Zero, Chinatown, Diamond District, etc. (I obviously like to eat) Another note: this trip is the week of July 4th. Will this be a busier time than normal? Where is a good location to view the fireworks? Thinking Battery Park with the concert but hoping to avoid the hugest crowds if at all possible. Staying in the Theater District. What are the best ways to get cheap tickets, outside of the TKTS line. Been to NYC in 2001 so not really into ESB, Statue, and the like again. Any help, from where to go, what to order, the best time to go, is greatly appreciated!

You are about to visit the greatest food city in the world .
Some favorites
Zabars 80th & Broadway This is one of the greatest gourmet food stores in America. Downstairs it's all food.Walk the store before you order anything although I have a special place in my heart for their almond croissants.
Pick up food to nosh on in your hotel room.
Upstairs it's all serious cooking equipment . You will find things like pate`en croute molds , copper halibut steamers , oval shaped melon ballers. They are a little pricey but the stuff is there.
Note in NYC is perfectly acceptable to ask for a sample of something that you want to buy.
Next to Zabars is H&H bagels always on the list of great NYC bagel places
As far as great deli's My favorite is the Carnegie acrossthe street from carnegie Hall
If you find yourself on the Lower east side you may alsso want to try Katz's deli and as long as you are in the area get some pickles from Guss's pickles on Orchard street off of Delancy . Great Great pickles
Pizza ? My favorite is John's on Bleeker off 7av - whole pies only- continuing on East on Bleeker takes you to Murrays Cheese shop and then going down Broadway crossing Houston you will run into Dean & DeLucas which is almost as good as Zabars' .
if you continue down broadway and make any left that will take you to Mulbery street and lLittle Italy. If you need a better Italian Neighborhood go up to Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. Its' sort of between fordham University and the Bronx Zoo
Lastly there is my favorite great Greek Grocery store Titan Foods 2556 31st Astoria Queens.
If you've never tasted real Greek Feta this is the place. again walk the store and ask to sample the cheese before you buy it. Their jumbo Velou olives are great and they also have a goo and somtimes great bakery.
To get there take the "N " or the "W trains From Times Square heading into Queens. Get off at Astoria Blvd and then wak about 5 blocks south in the direction you just came . Look for a blue and white awning. Ther diner on the corner the Neptune is actually pretty good althooough not as great as they once were. As with all places that normal NewYorkers eat portions tend to be large. I usually order my cheese burgers deluxe w/ a side of salad dressing to
use w/ all the vegtation that comes with it.
Enjoy

Tavern on the Green is a tourist trap (the food is mediocre at best)so are most restaurants in Little Italy. PignWhistle is baically an Irish pub with OK pub food. Grimaldi's has highest rated Pizza in NYC. Best place to see the fireworks is in someone's apartment facing the East River, if you don't know anyone with that view -- the FDR Drive is best, but no avoiding crowds...or if they are doing the harbor as well, then the Brooklyn Bridge or one of the restaurants at South Street Seaport that has a harbor view, probably need to reserve now

South Street Seaport for the ships

Catch a (day game, if possible) baseball game at Shea or Yankee Stadium.

Central Park, just don't go TOO far North ;-/

The U.N. building (take a tour)

Staten Island Ferry or the Circle Line Ferry

Carmine's in the Theatre District has THE best Italian food and it is reasonable priced for NYC.
Nothing to see really at Ground Zero and the traffic there is very congested.

NYC looks spectacular from the water.

If it is not too cold, take a Circle Line ride -- preferably after dark.

Make sure you go there earlier because if you get there last minute, theres gonna be ton of traffic! expect traffic and do not expect that there is no crowd.
