I live in a nice cul-de-sac walking distance from a lake. I love my nice and peaceful neighborhood, you rarely see neighbors but EVERYDAY I do see huge crap on my front lawn and I'm pretty disgusted about it! I've seen three dogs with tags roaming around by themselves (of course) taking dumps where ever they please! One time one of them ripped open a full trash bag I left out for the trash company to pick up and had to pick up the trash with my hands! Am I expecting too much from my neighbors, I mean this is a nice upscale neighborhood! I have a dog myself but he does his business in OUR backyard and I clean it up! I'm just getting tired of having to watch where I step when I get my mail! What can I do about this being that I have no clue who the owners are? Please help!

To "M", it's not against the law to leave a trash bag at the curb being that the trash company themselves asked me to, being that we were new in town and didn't have a trash can. Rediculous.....

To "Terra T", thanks for that info. I just moved to Texas and this is the welcome I get from the neighbors!

"To Koopaling" you are so funny! Everyone in my neighborhood is old and I'm 30, we're one of the youngest couples that live here plus most are white and I"m hispanic so I kind of don't want to stir up their enema bags! I surely don't want to follow the dogs cause I really don't know if they're mean dogs. I think I'll go with the Calling Animal Control route. Thanks everyone!

spray a LOT of pepper spray around the area where the dog crapped. when he/she sniffs the area next time, it will get into his nose.

I had the same problem once! The vet suggested that I put plastic containers with ammonia in them (like the cleaning ammonia that you can buy at Wal-Mart or the supermarket) and leave them around the yard. Somehow the smell is very repellent to the dogs and they avoid the area. If you do it long and often enough, they should learn to stay away from the area. It worked for me, and no more dog poop in the yard. I have a small fox terrier/chihuahua mix that I walk morning and evening with plastic bags in hand to pick up the poo. Some neighbors have recently been letting their large dogs do their large business in my front yard, so I'm going to be putting out the ammonia again soon. Personally, I would also call Animal Control (or whatever it's called in your area) to get the animals picked up. I assume that there is a leash law in the area that you live in, so the owners will have to pay to get the dogs out as well as a fine for not having the dogs on leash. Should teach them to pick up after their animals. Good luck with it...I hate stepping in dog poop left by a dog who has an inconsiderate owner.

Once you've realized whose dog is taking a crap on your lawn, pick up the dog stool and put it in a seal-able plastic bag (Ziploc or what have you). March it over to the deserving neighbor's house and ring the bell. When they come to the door hand them the bag and tell them "I believe this belongs to you". turn around and just walk away, don't even stick around for discussion. If this continues, just leave the bags on their doorsteps (let them pile up since many people don't even use their front doors-they go through the garage and such). Eventually they will get the idea.
I know this means a lot of work from you with the picking of the poop up to being with, but some people have no sense!

You don't happen to live in NY do you? I had the EXACT same experience several years ago where I lived in a cul de sac and never saw my neighbors but when I did that snatch was standing in her yard sending (yes sending) her dog over to my yard to poop. I filed a complaint and took her to court (the animal control was there on my behalf who also believed this lady was doing this and that she was a b**tch) but this snatch won because she claimed she was with her daughter and I didn't have any photos. My suggestion to you is to set up a camera or take a day off work and watch out the window and get some pics and then take her a&& to court for the both of us!!

Where I live there is a leash law, dogs are not suppose to be out running around by there selves. We got new neighbors a couple years ago that have two dogs. They have a fenced in back yard with a pool in it. Every morning and every afternoon they would open their garage doors and let the dogs out long enough to come over on our yard and do there daily dump. A dog will always go to the neighbors yard. Don't know why, but they do. It was so obvious they didn't want the dogs to dump in their backyard by the pool. Talk about rude neighbors. One day I got out of my car and stepped in dog crap on my lawn. I was so pissed off, I marched in my house, put on a pair of rubber gloves, went out and picked up at least 5 piles of s*#t from their dogs and marched over and dumped it all on their driveway. They would have to drive through it to get in their garage or get out and clean it up before they drove in their garage. Two times of doing this, they got it, the dogs are not let out any more. My husband still dies laughing at the picture of me out there throwing dog dump back in their driveway. It worked, that's all I cared about.
So I can sympathize with you, I was lucky, at least I knew where the dump was coming from.

It's NEVER ok. This just shows the slight regard this person has for you or probably any other neighbor. Maybe you need to call your County animal control and find out if there are any restrictions on dogs being alowed to run loose in your area. Where I live they are not allowed to do so.

I am with you on this... it isn't right !!!
You need to call the police department, there may be a leash law that you could have unforced.
Try and find out where the dogs owners live, so you can direct the police... I think you can remain anonymous. go to the neighborhood meetings and find out what they do, as your next door neighbor what their thoughts are.
Maybe there is some chemical spray you can put on your lawn.

This might sound harsh but call animal control the next time you see a dog running lose. There are leash laws in most city's. It should curb the problem if it's lose dog leaving your lawn a mess. This might be costly but have you thought about fencing your yard in?

Dog owners should clean up after their dog or have their dog do its business in their yard, that or don't own a dog. It's called personal responsibility.

I have the same problem with myself. Last year I was walking my chihuahua and ti went into our neighbor's yard. I remember our neighbor saying to get our dog out of their lawn and most of the time i do. (I let my chihuahua pee and poop in there if she really wants to or whenever they're not looking >=) )
However, many times i go out to get the mail and I see their big dog poopin in our lawn or when i go to take my chihuahuas out I sometimes step in its poops. (while wearing socks!!!! or lack there of!) And for that reason i let my chihuahua pee/poop in their lawn.
Well I do have one idea, you could see where the dog lives (follow it) and ask the owner to please try to keep it away from your lawn or something. i don't know.
I just wanted to share that i go through the same problem. :) Good luck!
