I love the spa idea, but the guest list is 60 people!

A day at the spa with you and your friends followed by drinks at a nice bar/restaurant.

A day at the spa for everyone can get quite expensive. May I suggest hiring a couple of people to come and give makeovers or spa treatments at the home of the party giver. Have the event catered and you still will spend less money than everyone getting a day at the spa lol.

May I also suggest that the bride-to-be NOT open the gifts at the shower, but rather open them privately later, where she can do it slowly and enjoy the experience. Also, the only one having a good time during gift giving is the one opening the gifts lol.

The spa idea is a good one but let me take it one step further. Since the cost can be prohibitive to most, I would like to suggest that you contact a reputable Massage School located in your area. The senior level students can come to your home (or where ever the party is to take place) and do the massages there. Massage Therapy students are required to perform so many hours doing "practice massages" and can NOT charge for those services but CAN receive tips. I would recommend that when you know your approximate guest list, you get 4 to 5 students, and "tip" them $25/each per hour they are there.

If you have everyone attending bring a robe, slippers, and their favorite pillow, it can be more like a bridal pj party !!

You can also contact the local beauty school and find out if they have any students that would be willing to do facials for credit as well.
(Don't know much about this type of school, so not sure what to expect on this front)

Good Luck

Yeah the spa thing is probably fun and all but it can probably get quite expensive. Your bachelorette party may be a better time to do that if you decide to because all the girls will pay for their own and you will get yours free:)
But bridal showers aren't supposed to be fun. It's pretty much a whole bunch of women saying oh you look so pretty and asking all kinds of dumb questions. So your best bet would be just to spice it up. Try to think of a fun theme that will get people in the mood.

Like for my bridal shower my bridesmaids are going to throw me a tea party. I'm real into all the girly stuff. Like my shower curtain is high heels and I have all the matching assessories and I collect little miniature high heels and you know how when your a kid you always play dress up and have a tea party with your baby dolls. Well I want to keep that whole girly theme and add it up with a womanly twist. I'm doing it in May so the weather wil be great. My sister is going to rent a big white yard tent and set up little tea tables and it's going to be like a brunch thing on a Sunday. And I'm going to wear a like a sundress with a big floppy hat. I think it will be so cute. It's kind of like my little way to live out one of my childhood fantasies you know. I can't wait. So maybe think of something that you like and incorporate it into a theme. Good Luck!

okay, we played a game at my friends that was really fun.
She had a list of things on paper that could be found in some purses. You got 1 point for each thing you had in your purse that was on the list, but if you had two of them, you could only count one. Items were things like, lipstick, chap stick, fingernail file, nail clippers, lotion, visa card, mastercard, a sears card, brush, toothbrush, at least two pictures of family members, ect.

Also, another really fun one, was to take the brides first, middle, and last name and have every one use the letters in them to make words that had something to do with marriage or wedding. Example: Tasha gracie-lynn Edwards : Alter, Dress, wedding, ect.

Give out 4 clothes pins to every guest and have them take eachothers pins when they hear another guest saying a word from the "unmentionable" list. Good words to use would be the grooms first or last name, tuxedo, honeymoon, vacation, ect. This one is a great ice breaker!!

I went to a bridal shower that had a fun 'ice breaker' game. Each person had a slip of paper taped to their backs with the name of a famous person on it. They went around to the other guests and asked them questions to figure out who they were. It was fun, and a good way to start conversations. Especially when everybody doesn't know everybody else. :)

i planned my cousins bridal shower and it was a blast. we had a few contest, like a sex food contest (i made penis pasta salad, some other people made things like brownies in the shape of penises complete with whip cream) , then we had another game where we used toilet paper and had a fashion show of toilet paper wedding gowns for the bride. look up some fun and silly games to do, the sex food contest certainly livened things up. Hope you have fun!!!

oh another funny one, is have someone write down the different random comments people make about the brides gifts then read them off later. try and write down ones that sound wrong . its quite amusing :)
