Since you are suppose to pray unceasing then I guess the position doesn't really matter. I think that praying is talking to God and I do it all day everyday no matter what else I am doing. It is a state of prayer that keeps the dialog open to God. I sometimes think it is more important to get into a certain environment to hear God's voice even though you should be listening to that voice all the time too.

I'll avoid the obvious joke and answer the question.

I always laugh that Christians ask questions (or at least debate) that which Jesus clearly stated. He said to go alone into your room, close the door and pray quietly.

Why Christians insist on praying in public like the Pharisees I will never understand. It's almost as if they don't give a crap what their own God said.

There is no such thing as "the best position for prayer". You can stand, sit, lay down, hang upside down, swing from the chandelier, hop up and down, walk around, what ever, just talk to God, and by all means listen for the answer.

I try to go down on my knees to pray because it hurts them so much. If I bear the pain for my prayers I feel closer to my Lord.

What ever position helps you to concentrate on what you are saying to God.
A position or place where there is no interruption of thought.

Depends on the religion and your abilities and beliefs. After having studied many religions, I've come to the conclusion that whatever works for you is what's "best".
