Jesus taught His disciples to pray, Our Father who aren't in heaven, but does that mean we should never pray to Jesus or the Holy Spirit? What is your understanding on that thought? I heard a TV preacher saying Jesus told the disciples not to pray to Him. I couldn't find any such verse even in Strong's Concordance.

Yes, Jesus instructs us to pray to the Father and to make our requests in Jesus name. Jesus also says that whatever you ask of me I will do, John 14:14.

The way that I understand this is that the differences is in the roles that they each have for us. Jesus intercedes for us to the Father. This means that we can ask Jesus to present our needs and desires to the Father for us, kind of like Mom preparing Dad for the "news" he is about to hear from his child. It is our heavenly Father that is our provider in all things. This is why we ask and pray to the Father. By using Jesus name in our request it is also a confirmation of the authority we have as believers through Jesus that He gives us.

The main thing about prayer is that it is not about presenting a wish list to the right person of God. It is about opening a line of communication from you to your heavenly Father and from Him to you. When we pray we are talking to God and He is talking to us. If we do not take the time to be still and listen to what He has to say then we may well have missed hearing the answer to our prayer request.

Prayer is how we commune with our God and heavenly Father. Prayer is where we start to become intimate with God and get to know Him one on one. This is the relationship that we began when we accepted the path to God through Jesus. The growth and maturing of this relationship is up to each one of us and God is willing to take us as far as we are willing to go with Him. God has already done His part and is always available, we never have to make an appointment or wait until He is not so busy.

The Holy Spirit is our deposit of the promise from God and of God that He will never leave us or forsake us. The Holy Spirit is the person of God that God the Father works through in changing us from the inside out. It is the Father that molds and shapes us through the Holy Spirit and it is the Holy Spirit that empowers us to do the will of the Father. It is the Holy Spirit that leads us in to all truth.

The way that all three persons of God that are one work together and yet separately could be because of their residency. The spirit realm is the dominate realm and we live and operate in the physical realm. The physical realm was created for the purpose and pleasure of God. God the Father and Jesus reside in the spiritual realm and the Holy Spirit lives here on earth in the family of God.

I got carried away. I apologize. God bless you in your quest.

I hope you meant "Our Father, who art in heaven..."
Jesus said " I and the Father are one, if you have seen me, you have seen the Father." Since the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one, you would be correct in praying to any or all three of them. If you've been saved, then the Holy Spirit is in you. Jesus is at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us, because He knows all the trials and troubles we face every day. He's sitting on the Mercy Seat....As long as he's there, we'll be forgiven of sins we repent of. The day He gets up, then mercy will be no more. That's when God the Father will have told him to go get the Church (those that have been saved).
You did well in your research....don't believe everything you hear on TV.....

Not that I have been able to find. Jesus instructs his disciples to pray " Our Father", but I don't think that he ever specifically told them not to pray to Him. Since God is a triune God, with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you're really praying to the same God.

While Jesus was alive he very well may have told the disciples to pray to God, probably to make them understand that he was not God, but a part of God.

Jesus=Father God=Holy Spirit so it doesnt really matter if you prayed to Jesus or Father God or the Holy Spirit. We are told to pray in the name of Jesus to Father God by the Spirit of God(Spirit or truth)

That's "Our father who ART in heaven.." Art means IS in heaven from the style of English the King James Bible was written in. Christs own words say how we should pray. We should ask all from the Father in Jesus Christs NAME as he died for our sins.

In our Nicene Creed, there is a verse where we say, "We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father." Thus saying that we are praying to the Trinity whenever we say Our Father, because Jesus is God. Sorta like when you were small, your mother would say your dad's money was her money.

Interestingly enough, nowhere in scripture do we find Jesus EVER requiring anyone to pray to the Father THROUGH him.

God is God.

Just pray!

We are to pray to God in the name of Christ. It says in John 14:13-14 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

To me, this says that we pray to God in Christs name. He is our advocate to the Father.
