If atheists/agnostics are so bad and immoral, why do they only make up about 0.2% of the US prison population?

This is from the Federal Bureau of Prisons (1997).

I hate to burst your bubble but .2% of atheists in prison is relative to their general birth population.
In other words, if you only have 5% of atheists living in the U.S how do you expect to have anything over 1% in prison?
You first need to find out how many atheists and agnostics are living in the U.S then compare that to the prison population.

Because atheists are neither bad nor immoral. In fact, I'm willing to bet that on average atheists tend to be MORE moral than religious people. I may just be speculating on this, but from what I've seen the people who become atheists are usually rational, intelligent, well educated people. Not the types you'd expect to commit any heinous crimes.

Edit: While the statistics you gave by no means indicates that atheists actually ARE more moral than religious people, they certainly show that atheists are, on average, every bit as moral and good as theists.

I agree with your question.
I do have something to say to most of the answerers though. The people in the prison systems only turn to God because they are about to be faced with the death sentence. Just because someone repents their sins at the last moments of their life, does not make them a "Christian". It means they are trying to cover their @sses, just in case there is a hell. In which case, wouldn't get them into heaven anyway, if they didn't mean it....but anyways.....

I'd like to add to haysoos2's answer by saying atheists also have a lower divorce rate than Christians.

I'm also told (although I have yet to see any conclusive stats) that atheists tend to be better educated.

Because after atheists and agnostics committ their atrocities, they are whisked off to "Satan's Bahama Retreat for the Unreligious" to enjoy their depravity in the tropical sun, where demon's serve cocktails and nightly baby roasts take place. The Christian US Government cannot touch us there.

Either that or atheists/agnostics are simply more ethical and moral people, on average, then your run-of-the-mill theist.

What an awesome question that is, you know I guess that's because most of the people here believe in a self-righteous warring God who condones violence, jealousy, and condemnation whenever he is offended or whenever he sees fit.
Obviously you're going to eventually mimick your role model. I just don't understand why people don't believe in a bigger God than that, why worship a God who has as much flaws as you?

This is interesting, since atheists also have much, much lower rates of such 'immoral' activities such as abortions, STD infections, homicide rates, and teen pregnancies than those who are religious (any denomination).

Perhaps it's religion that promotes immoral activity?

This has been answered many times before. You see, many times when people have reached a low point of their lives,they reach out to Jesus. That's why many people become born again in prisons.A large part of them got saved sometime AFTER entering prison. I pray you reach out for Him as well. There are countless in hell at this very moment reaching out for Him , but it's too late for them. He's unreachable down there.Hell has no exits and they blew their chances while on earth.
