I know she should have been spayed but I didn't know how old she was when we found her.

You go to the petstore and get doggie sanitary pads, then you call your vet and make an appointment for her to be spayed so you don't have to deal with this again. She should be in heat 2-3 weeks, so make the appointment for 4-5 weeks from now.

You can purchase diapers for dogs, but in my experience they do not work very well. Depending on the size of the dog, you can try shorts, onesies for babies, underware for people, or anything else that you can find that will fit the dog. The diapers that I had for my dog were really expensive (over $30) and my dog could get them off just by walking, and I have had the best luck with old clothes that I do not wear anymore (but you may have to modify them just a little).

They make doggie diapers you can purchase at the pet stores, that may help. Or even get a pair of childrens pants, cut a hole for her tail, and put a maxi pad inside to absorb the blood.

After her heat cycle is over, GER HER SPAYED ASAP! The longer you wait, the worse it is for her health in the long run.

I don't think there is anything you can do to stop them bleeding, but we bought 'dog pants' at our vet. I'm sure you should be able to find them on the net somewhere. They may look silly and you have to take them off everytime the dog goes outside, but they fit the dog like pants and you put sanitary towels in them. It's not so nice having to take out the pads and such but it's better than cleaning blood off the floor constantly.

Either that or we've improvised with normal pants, cutting them and fitting them to the dog, and again putting sanitary pads in them.

Apart from that there isn't much you can do!

Go to the pet store or feed store and get doggie diapers-- they're "diapers" made for that very purpose.
