I think you have anxiety issues and a good way to treat it is to see a mental health professional. Contact your health insurance agency and find out if they cover counseling sessions.

Have you ever seen the movie Goodfellas? If not I reccomend seeing it. It has an entire sequence where a guy is terrified of a helicopter overhead and everyone else calls him paranoid to worry about it. Well I wont ruin what happens in the movie but I think you'll like it.

Do you live in a bad neighborhood like me? Helicopters fly over my apartment every night and I hear gun shots at least twice a day. Maybe the helicopter was flying on your side of bedroom window away from your mom's window and her windows were closed while your was open. I sometimes feel like helicopter's going to crash too. I cannot stand it. Well, I have no other choice cause we don't have money to move to a better place.

Maybe, you have hypersensitive hearing or maybe being woken up by the first helicopter traumatized you, somehow. I don't think you're going crazy, but maybe you should seek someone with answers for this particular phenomenon.

are you on any medications? maybe these can be causing this? or sometimes depression left untreated, or not treated properly can lead to phychosis. don't let that scare you. some people have auditory as well as visual hallucinations. it could even be symptoms of schizophrenia. its not as bad as it sounds. it is treatable and there are very many support groups on and off line.
there are medications " start off by searching "auditory as well as visual hallucinations." on line. "neuroleptics or anti-psychotic drugs" that can help with this, but please be careful as they are very very powerful and dangerous.!!!! read and research as much as you can. and talk to your family doctor. maybe you can find better answers there.
I hope that things go well for you, as I know what you are going through.
best of luck...
