Most male dogs can breed at 6 months, but it is best to wait until they are at least 18 months so that they can be health tested. Also, AKC will not register puppies produced by a male that is less than 8 months old at the time of conception.

Once he's old enough to have been a showing champion and pass all his vet certifications. This generally can't take place before 2 years of age.

But, your Breed's Parent club would probably be the best source of information on responsible breeding. Try visiting the AKC site for a link to it. http://www.akc.org/breeders/resp_breeding/index.cfm

Breeding for ANY reason other than to improve the breed via careful selection of breeding dogs, is 100% immoral, irresponsible, and unethical.

Probably 6 to 8 months---but why in heaven's name do you want to breed a pet dog? Most 'stud dogs' are never housebroke, & often become aggressive. Also, the stud owner is as responsible as the ***** owner for the puppies produced---this also means after they are placed & then no longer wanted. You should know your responsibilities if you are going to breed dogs--especially in an urban setting. There is a worldwide pet overpopulation problem. Do you want to be part of the problem, or part of the solution? If you got your dog from a hobby breeder who exhibits, ask him about breeding. If not, go directly to the veterinarian & have him neutered.

Male dogs can start to be effective at breeding as early ast 6 months of age. I don't think they are most effective until after 1 year of age, though.

Depends on the dog , some dogs are duds not studs no matter the age . But a good age to start paying attention is 10 months , till 16 months of age .Unlike heather93 I understand everyone needs to start somewhere ,shes probably scared of competition
