It's really not that bad. It's a little scary at first, because you're all by yourself. But, after you get to know some people, it gets better. They give you a schedule for each day, listing all the groups that you will have to attend and time that you will have to devote to watching self-help videos on depression and mental illness. You do have to give up all your meds to the nurses, but they are pretty good at making sure you are okay. You also have free time, so that you can journal and then also to play games with other patients. You get to have visitors. I can't say that I wanted to be there for very long, but it wasn't a horrible experience, I just missed my family. For me, I am glad that I went because it really helped me pull out of my depression for awhile. Even though my depression returned, I never went back to sleeping all day, everyday, only getting up to go to the bathroom and eat. I think that she is in good hands and there will be a psychiatrist there that she will be able to talk to also, so he/she can get her on the right meds. Sometimes, that's all that is needed-just a change of meds. I think that this will be a good experience for her and she wil come out better because of it. She is lucky that she has you. Don't feel like you have to fix her. All she wants is for you to be there when she needs you, even if it's just to listen. I hope that things work out for your girlfriend and that she gets better soon. Good luck to you and take care. :)

DEPRESSION is a hard thing to deal with, doing in a psych hospital is just where she needs to be. there is a vast amount of group and one on one therapy there different things that they teach is how to deal with depression and teach her that arts and drafts is a great outlet. there should be a night that you can go and visit her (friends and family night) this might be a good night to attend. it will help you understand her help her see that your there for her to support her in recovering from depression. they also keep people there to get her adjusted to a new medication. I hope the best for her and you. I am sure that with her knowing that your there for her Thur good and bad is more help to her then anything.

Have a great week use the time also to think deeply on your self and ways you too can keep from depression.

She will be fine, its basically like a big rest period for her. Some counseling for her and get it on some meds that will help her with her problems. Don't worry about it too much, she will be home before you know it. Also, just think of the good times and you will be alright. Have a great night.

Dont worry, she'll be fine. I have been to them places, hell, 2 or 3 times. Mostly all day you go to groups. You talk to your doctor, to see how the meds are working. Then you go back to groups.I thought I could sleep but oh no, they wo'nt let you sleep, you have to go to art group, group, group, group. I know she'll be happy to see you when she gets out.

They will probably put her in anti-depressants...The reason to put her there is for her to completely focus on why she's depressed and nothing else. I know it's hard for you but please be patient and wait for her..
