Usually you can install Office on a desktop and a laptop. Check the End-User License Agreement by opening Microsoft Word (or any other Office program), and clicking Help > About [Name of product]. Then click "View the End-User License Agreement". Check the 'Installation and use' section. Usually you are allowed to install it on one PC and install an additional copy on "a second, portable device for the exclusive use of the primary user of the first copy of the Software."
