Is it legal for the car insurance agent to show you the application form from another client, to explain something to you?

Is it legal for somebody to convince you to sign up for a long term hydro plan to save $, by showing you your neighbout utilities receipts?

It's unethical to show personal information, like giving you their name, social security number and credit score.

But showing you an application where you don't know who it is, with the name blanked out, is ok.

Is it legal for someone to SELL you something? sure. You don't HAVE to buy. That's what the second question is asking.

For your first question, I suppose as long as it was a copy of an application that had all identifying information (name, address, tel #, DL #, VIN, policy #s) removed there would be nothing unethical about it. If any of this information was visible, or they took no effort to hide it, then this would definitely be unethical. Whether it is illegal depends on your local laws. However I would be wary of placing your business with this particular agent.
As for your second question, in today's world of identity theft no company should be displaying any customer's information to anyone.

Depends in some states it is legal to look at the houses around you to compare prices on utilities. Other states you cant check the laws in your area. Sometimes this info is open to the public.
