what do you think of a surprise wedding ?
thinking of getting married on the 1st of jan 2008 and surprising the hell out of all the family and at least i know that no one will be working due to a public holiday getting all the family together is very hard for us! thinking of doing a garden or beach ceremony at around 4 or 5 in the afternoon and then off to a nice resturant for the reception just in time for dinner
just want your thoughts at the moment !
nothing is set just as yet and no one can steal my ideas either i'll make em copyrighted if i have too lmao!

i forgot to tell you all as well that my BF and I have been together for 15 years next year that is why we want to surprise the family and we are going to send out wedding invites but just not put our names on them but let them still give then an easy enough clue to say that it will be us we are not worried about the no presents thing as we are just simple people who live a simple life and material items arent everything ! and im glad everyone likes my idea !

I think it's doable as long as you're not too thin-skinned. You've got to realize family members may not like the idea. It is a holiday, and you need to think how you'd feel getting a call to "come to my wedding TODAY". You know your family and your fiance knows his well enough to get an idea of how they'll react.
It's an excellent idea in theory, and I can see it working if everyone is a good sport about it.
Congratulations.

Celebs do it so why not you?
I am concerned that since you said that it's hard for your family to get together......well just getting together might not work; they may need an actual reason. So you may have to tell everyone they're coming to a wedding.
And it being a holiday, too. There's too much working against your great idea at the moment

I know someone who did it, and it was very exciting! The only thing is, you have to MAKE SURE the main people would be present (your family, etc)...we talked aobut doing it too--invite everyone for a housewarming party, and bust out the wedding officiant and surprise everyone, but decided against it in favor of going out of town.

I think this is a wonderful idea and it is great practice and requires modesty to want the best for all concerned. Marriage isn't a small even. Marriage is one of the greatest institutions in the world. Make proper plans and if you really love him and he really loves you, then you should make plans to have a marriage that you and him will remember till you get to the point of having lots and lots of children if that's what you both want.

It stops people interfering anyway lol...as long as your fiance is aware that the wedding will be happening I would think you'd pull it off. Please do let him know though as I have seen "surprise" weddings go badly wrong when the fiance turns up and does not want to get married that day.

Sounds good to me that way no one can interfere in the wedding plans but then again it might not be a good idea for people may have other plans and not show up and don't you want wedding gifts? then again it's your day so do what you want and CONGRATULATIONS

you aren't the first one to think of a surprise wedding; but......heck go for it if you can pull it off......and if you start now you should be able to get everyone together, what is your plan B if someone important has plans for that day....like nursing their hangover?

I think that's really cool idea. you would just have to be sure everyone would come if they just think it's dinner. if they knew it was a wedding, they would come. if you did wanna suprise them, say it's and engagement party or something. But i love that idea!! Good luck!!
