OK if I can't get rid of it, can it be treated? My Doc said it would go away once I am well. It is somewhat painful, making it difficult to chew, drink, and sometimes speak.

IT CANNOT GO AWAY. IT IS BENIGN ALTHOUGH KINDA SORE. KEEP OFF SPICY FOODS AS THIC AGGRAVATES IT AND IT SHOULD STOP BEING SORE.

Geographic tongue is caused by B vitamin deficiencies. This has been known for decades. People who starve themselves for long periods of time soon develop this. Glossitis can be caused by B12 deficiency - see source (pic). Make sure your getting every nutrient, because B vitamins work with other vitamins and minerals and it should go away. If it doesn't I would look at some type of malabsorption syndrome, something GI related.
