As many of us agree, "illegal" means ILLEGAL, so of course they should have to go.
If they have a better life here, they "should" stay as long as the US allows them to stay.
But we cannot just sit and complain about it, we have to DO something about it:
Border Security - keep out anyone who did not follow this country's laws and regulations for being allowed in
Round up and kick out illegals - like any and all crimes, the law must be enforced, need a secure border or they come right back in, in which case penalties should become stiffer and stiffer for every repeat offense
Deny government services to illegals - that's right, no emergency rooms, hospital care, police, firefighters, FEMA, traffic lights, nothing. If you don't pay taxes, you don't deserve any of them, because you are essentially stealing from the people that do.
Punish those who employ, smuggle, and harbor illegals - as with drugs, you have to work on the demand side of the problem too, not just the supply side. Anyone that encourages, profits from, and facilitates illegal activity is an accomplice/co-conspirator and must be punished.
LEGAL IMMIGRATION IS GREAT and what this country is based on. Quality people coming to join our society without excessively draining our resources. We have scarce resources, and cannot allow millions and millions of illegals into our country without eventually getting overwhelmed. Unfortunately, our border cannot be an open door to the rest of the world's billions of unfortunate people. Think about it, without immigration law enforcement, with open borders, how many of the world's poor would flock to live in the United States, and what then would our standard of living be? We would become just another third world country.
THERE needs to be a managed, qualified stream of legal immigration that helps this country strengthen, diversify and grow, of people who are qualified, screened, and meet the necessary standards and requirements. People who appreciate this country and what it stands for and will join in, not invade us in uneducated hordes to stay isolated, overwhelming US culture with their own through sheer force of numbers while taking advantage of government services (police, fire, medical, national security, etc.) without paying taxes.
AND we cannot be hypocrites, and we have to be prepared for the consequences, and we must act before the illegal population is so high that it overwhelms even our political system as their children vote in ever increasing numbers. We cannot make money or save money off of cheap illegal labor, whether it is agriculture, cleaning crews, construction, what have you, and then turn around and complain about higher expenses. Many greedy Americans happily profit off of illegals - Bank of America is now offering credit cards to illegals that have no social security numbers. Cell phone companies and banks are working out a system by which illegals can send money to their home countries via cell phones. Large corporations and farmers bus truckloads of illegals around to do things as cheaply as possible. We cannot cry if after cracking down on illegals we have to pay a few cents more as consumers per pound of vegetables, or for professional cleaning services, or for lawn care. Everything is a trade off and we cannot have it both ways.
I love America, my family came here as legal immigrants, as did most Americans' at some point. Land of the free, equal opportunity, public education, etc. If you love America and will follow the rules, I want you to come and work hard and enjoy our opportunity and make our country even better. If you sneak in illegally you are a criminal and need to be punished, along with anyone that helps you. I do not want to live in a third world country, or see my children or grandchildren living in a third world country, which is what will happen with uncontrolled illegal immigration.

Deporting 12 million people is not cost-effective, practical or even particularly helpful, and some of these illegals were taken here as babies and have only ever known this Country.
Nor is the border something you can close (does it have a door?).
What DOES have to be changed is:
* putting pressure on Mexico to fix it's problems instead of sending everyone here
* changing the immigration PROCESS so that people who WANT to work here, live here, learn English and assimilate do not face a mountain of bureacracy, a lucky lottery draw, and a ridiculous waiting period
* the thinking that ALL illegal immigrants are drug dealers, gang bangers, welfare recipients....most are working HARDER than the average U.S. Citizen just to have a decent life.
* Concentrating on finding the immigrants that DO abuse welfare, steal identitiies and commit felonies and sending THEM back.

To target just one nationality would be racist. Get rid of ALL illegal invaders and tighten all the borders.

If what you are proposing was that easy, don't you think that would have already been done? No easy solution.
