You have probably already tried these:
Hot milky drinks, listening to soft chilled out music, if you have too many things on your mind mentally lock them away in a box til the morning, read a book until your eyes can no longer stay open, imagine yourself floating in a bubble and nothing can get in to disturb you. Some of these may work for you.
I am suffering with PTSD so unfortunately I can't sleep either and when I do I have nightmares which wake me up and then I can't drop back off. So I know how horrible it is not to get any sleep and how shattered you end up feeling.
Hope you find something that works for you :-)))

I hate suggesting things for people to take but as a 15 year insomniac sufferer who has tried EVERYTHING i can strongly recommend Melatonin.I researchedthem well before ordering from www.biovea.co.uk.For the first time in all these years i am now sleeping and happy.I have to take 4 x 3mg but you would have to find the dose that suits you best.If you do decide to try them try taking them about 4 hours before bedtime. They are very gentle and you do not suddenly fall asleep like you would with sleeping tablets.I have been using them for a year now with no ill effects.Good luck with whtever you try as i know insomnia is truly a terrible thing to suffer with.

My hubby has insomnia. He hates to take anything perscription as he's into alternative health. He bought the new Sleep MD. Its available at GNC and some department or health stores. It seems to work most of the time. Also try some essential oils like lavander and jasmine. A few drops in a bath before bed, or a few on your pillow...
Oh, I've also heard recently that celery promotes relaxation and it was recommened that people eat it before going to bed. Don't know if its works, but its worth a try!
Good luck! :)

I had the same problem last year.I`d go to sleep ok but would wake up at 3 in the morning not able to get back to sleep. This went on for some months and i was finding it difficult to concentrate and look after my 3 children.I went to the Dr and i was diagnosed with depression.I don`t know to this day if the lack of sleep caused the depression or i couldn`t sleep because i was depressed but if i was you i would seek medical help before it developes into anything else.At the mpomnet i`m still being treated for depression but my sleeping as improved. I still wake up in the early hours but i soon drop back off to sleep. Goodluck.

Jeeze, I can't believe everyone on here suggests something to take, not something to do.
You should get yourself in the routine of jogging, either in the morning before work or right after work. You should try both for a week and see what works better for you. It gets your heart pumping and your endorphins going. It'll do the trick. You can't sleep because you're restless. You're restless because you don't get any exercise, and walking isn't an exercise, even uphill.
A pill can't cure everything.

Hi I have had this prob fo years off and on, never been to doctor about it. I have tried two magnesium tabs ( asda sell em ) that idea was off Gillian Mckeith, worked for about 6 months then got used to it. Tesco sleep aid (anti histamine ) work till about 6am then you wake. My current favourite is wearing socks in bed. Dont laugh I read it and it is working at present I am having great long, deep sleeps. Also try cammomile tea. Good luck its a pain. I didnt like Kalms BTW they did nothing for me, but no adverse reactions so maybe worth a try for you.

by the time i get to sleep i have about 2-3 hrs a night, mostly just tossing and turning. i have been like this for at least fifteen years. it's not a case of falling asleep and waking up, it's more like passing out and coming around. it seems like i have a brain that won't shut up. it keeps me occupied and won't let me rest, so i you are really suffering i empathise with you, but unfortunately cannot offer a solution

There are a load of things to try:
- avoiding coffee / tea after 6pm
- try to develop a 'routine' around bedtime
- reading a VERY boring book before bed
- listening to calm music with the lights off and not worrying about staying awake to turn off the music!
- practicing 'chilling-out', controlling your thoughts so that worries are displaced
- sleep in a quiet, dark cool room with plenty of fresh air
- getting plenty of exercise during the day, so that you are physically tired
Hope this helps!

If I can't sleep I get up and do something.
No sense laying there awake. When you're tired enough you will sleep.
If not a bottle of wine after dinner sometimes helps.
