I was just recently prescribed Lexapro and it says it has very low side effects and I didn't see weight gain as one. However, I researched it a little and saw that it has caused weight gain in a lot of people.

I was wondering, are any of you who gained weight on Lexapro already overweight, or had a lot of weight fluxuation before the drug? I am on the thin side (5'7", 120-125 lbs) and my weight doesn't fluxuate more than a few pounds, and usually thats right after I eat. I have a pretty fast metabolism so I don't really gain weight, but I eat a lot.

So, has anyone who was thin or normal weight gained a ton of weight on Lexapro?? So is it a metabolism thing??

Thanks for any answers!

I know that Lexapro has done a lot of good for a lot of people. However I just finished getting off of it and wished I had never went on. Like you I have always been thin (5'6" size 4) with close to no weight change for the last 6 years.
Lexapro gave me horrible mood swings if I did not take it at exactly the same time each day (im talking within half an hour) weird bowel movements and I gained 19 pounds!!! I am now at the heaviest weight (by far) of my entire life! However the good news is that after going off I have reverted quickly (My last full dose was a week and a half ago) loosing 2 pounds already. I am not saying that this is the wrong choice for everyone but it was for me so just think about it before you start because it is hard to stop. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Lexapro does not normally cause weight gain however, when some people are depressed, they have no appetite and eat less. After being on lexapro for a few weeks, many people start to feel better and their appetite returns to normal. Thus, some do gain weight.
Each person is different but lexparo is not one of those medications that definetly will cause weight gain.
Good luck and feel better !

I have been on Lexapro for 2 years and I have Definitely gained alot of weight, I'm talking 15 pounds. It helps me so much, I'm afraid to go off it. I went off for awhile and my symptoms came back. I have tried other anti-depressants, but none worked as well as Lexapro. I wish it didn't have the weight gain affect to it, but, it does!

be careful
I do not know about this particular drug
but some anti-depressants, even those who never mention weight gain, have been known to put the pounds on......
the best thing to do, keep an eye on things, and if you start gaining over a few pounds, contact your doctor immediately so she can perscribe an alternative medication.
