If you dumped him because of your friends and the drama it was causing, then you don't care about him enough to be in the relationship and putting him through the heartache all over again is just mean.
It doesn't sound as if you're mature enough to have a serious relationship, so if you do get back together, I'd make sure that you don't commit yourself to each other too fast.

He is just a "boyfriend". Not meant to sound harsh but there will be many before you ever find the true love of your life.
Don't make things that are trivial, mountains. When we are young we tend to do just that. Learn not to now so as an adult you will handle things on a more stable setting.
If you want to see him again then you need to talk with him and be honest with him. He either accepts or he doesn't.
All in all it should be a learning experience for you. The challenges you face are there not to stop you but to make you stronger, wiser and more prepared for the future.

Think clearly why you broke up with him. Was it really a mistake or are you just lonely? Sometimes we forget the bad things from a relationship, especially when we see him hurting or feel that emptiness after a break up.
It's rare when a couple can fully recover after a breakup. I suggest you take more time with this decision; rushing back in to it is a bad idea. It could take weeks or months to see that you made the right decision.

You can try though, he may forgive you if you show him that you are sincere, sorry, and willing to give of yourself for a relationship for a change.
