Was Jesus God? I always learned that he was the Son of God, but after studying the bible more in depth it seems that I understand that he IS God. I'm confused, what's up with that? So who do you pray to, Jesus or God?

You are not confused. Jesus is God.

God came to earth in human form...His name was Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus Christ.

I pray to God the father, through Jesus name.

Jesus is the Son of God, but the term is qualified by a special Greek word, monogenes, which means only-begotten, (John 1:14,18; John 3:16,18 and I John 4:9), which distinguishes Him from others who are called sons of God in Scripture - for instance the angels in Job 1:6; 2:1 and believers in Romans 8:14,19; Galatians 3:26)
In the introduction of John's Gospel He is set forth as both distinguished from God (the Father), and equal to God. That He is clearly set forth as pre-existing creation and instrumental in the creation is also clear from John 1:1-3 and also Colossians 1:13-18.
As far as who you should pray to - I believe it is entirely appropriate to pray to Jesus Christ, however the general pattern He left with His disciples in John's Gospel chapter 16, verses 23-28 is to pray to the Father, in the name of Jesus. See also Matthew 6:9-13.

Jesus is the son of the Most Holy Father Jehovah, not God himself. when he prayed, he prayed to his Father in the heaven. how can you pray to yourself. no one has seen the Father but seen the son. when Jesus was baptized, Jehovah came down like a dove and said this is my son the beloved. Jesus said he cannot do anything without the Father in the heaven, so he is not God. also how can he be God and this son of God. it does not make sense

Jesus IS God. In John 1:1-3 " In the beginning was the WORD , and the WORD was with God, and the WORD was God...." That WORD being referred to is JESUS, the WORD of God, the WORD of life, the WORD made flesh. Other passages read that Jesus said that He and the Father are ONE. In Christianity this is called the Holy Trinity. God the Father is God, God the Son (JESUS) is God, ANd God the Holy Spirit is GOd. They are different manifestations and persons of God but only ONE and the same . They are not 3 gods, but only ONE and the Same. You pray to the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. And only them. God bless you. continue to read your bible but make sure you don't take it literally at times. talk to your priest or minister for clarifications.

Lets make this answer an easy to understand response. Colossians 1:15 states... He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creations. According to this scripture he is the first one to be made by God. Therefore he is the first begotten son of God. No where in the bible is it mentioned that Jesus and God are the same being. (Except for a false spurious scripture that may be found in KJ). The inspired word clearly shows you who he is. The son of God.

Your studies have pointed you in the right direction. I pray to God, be it God the father or Jesus.

This interchange between the pharisees and Jesus may help clear up the conflicting info you're getting here:

Mat 26:63 But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

Mat 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Mat 26:65 Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

Jesus was not accused of blasphemy for claiming to be a man, how is that blasphemy? The Pharisees knew exactly what he was telling them and their reaction speaks volumes.

He's not God, in the Bible Jesus even tells his followers to not worship him as if he was God, because he wasn't. If he was, why say "Father why have you forsaken me?" while on the cross?

Either way, the Bible was written around 200 yrs after he died and can be interpreted too many different ways. You'll get alot of different answers, but I think Jesus just saw himself as a prophet spreading God's word.

No. When God was on earth nobody could kill Him, great powerful man-demons tried it, but they did not do any even a little scratch on God. Of course this is not in the Bible, is in the Vedas.
But i believe in Jesus also. Jesus was sent by God. You can pray either one.

Jesus is God.
Jesus is the Son Of God.
He is One-Third of The Trinity which Are The Father, Son & Holy Spirit. Each person in the Godhead is totally separate - yet A Part of One Another.
It is extremely complicated, yet a necessary foundation for our beliefs. You don't need to understand it to be saved - but is helpful to understand other aspects of our religion.

Jesus was there in the beginning as HE will be in the end. HE was GOD on earth. We are told to pray to the Father thru HIS SON. Therefore you might begin a prayer by saying FATHER, we thank you for all of the many blessings that we have received... etc, etc... and end the prayer by saying "In Jesus' name we pray, Amen."

Have a great evening.
