My faith is not bound up in those sixty-six volumes. There is so much more to my faith as a Christian than those things recorded in Scripture. Scripture, Tradition and Reason...these are the cornerstones of my faith. This is why I reject the idea of "sola scriptura".

Although I'm not Christian, the question that you are asking is not hypothetical. It is the truth. Part of the bible is true, but parts have been rewritten also. There is an original copy of the bible in Syria. Why do you think there are so many versions of the bible (King James, etc)? Who is King James, and why is he writing a bible?
EDIT: How can you people say that my religion (Islam) is bad when your bible says to kill all the women, children, etc.? And you think that's peaceful and loving? At least Islam says not to kill women, children, and elderly.
EDIT: No Denise, it doesn't mean that God is a liar. It means that someone out there a long time ago wanted to break a rule that the bible set, so they changed it to make what they wanted to do not against the bible by changing the bible. God didn't change it. God then sent Islam to the world because the Bible was corrupted. The Qu'ran has NEVER been changed however.

This is a hard question to answer, because a true christian has no doubt in the truth of the bible. And lets just say some of the bible was not true, how would a christain know that? There as been things on TV where they say somethings in the bible are not true, but as a christian, I just can't believe it. True christians faith cannot be rocked. You just have to take the bible for what it is. The word of God.

It is a hypothetical question for those who trust in the Bible's infallibility. But not for those who consider the bible, whatever it may be and however valuable it is, is not without flaw. And that is a considerable list...
The Mormons and the Christian Scientists add texts, Others consider one version of the bible, or all, in some measure corrupted. (King James Only advocates, JW, and Islam). The position of the Apocrypha and other questions of the canon are revealing. For the simplest of them all, perhaps, consider the question of what the ending of Mark's Gospel should be.
To those who have asserted that study of the bible would reveal its infallibility, I differ. Teaching bible studies for many years, I could not hold, at the last, a view that was both honest and maintained the practical inerrancy of the bible.
This is not a position I adopted out of desire or of ignorance.

To say that the Bible is literally true or to accept every word as being true is to deny the existence of any metaphors in the Bible. No imagery, no comparisons, no similes. As this is obviously not the case, there are metaphors in every chapter, every word in the bible is not literally true. Once you accept that there are some metaphors in the Bible then you can accept that large parts of it are metaphorical.

There are things in the OLD TESTAMENT of the Bible I won't ever put to the test. For example, as a married man, I do not control my wife or act as her boss, as the OLD TESTAMENT Bible suggests. But the bulk of the TEACHING of the NEW TESTAMENT is unassailable. Love, peace, humiltity, generosity... what is to argue with about that?

The Bible isn't THE Truth.
The Bible points us to THE TRUTH, and His name is JESUS. THE TRUTH is a person.
Everything in the Bible is true, there is not a document in existence with the level of credibility that the Bible has, and proof of the dating of its writing. I challenge you to really study it, to prove it wrong- I challenge you, because you will see it is the truth, and you too will become a Christian.

Well, if part of the Bible was harmful, I think it would be hard to continue observing Christianity at all. I don't know how I'd be convinced that it was harmful, though.

I suggest you stick to the exact words of Jesus. And, ignore any preconcieved descriptions of God and Heaven and how to get there. Just for a while, you might ignore Paul, and Peter, and any Relatives who have told you about the meaning of "Believing in" Jesus.

The Bible is all useful and true. Your "hypethetical" does not apply.
If you had experienced the second chapter of Acts you would know that.
