I remember going to a place when I was a little girl. I know it was in southern california and had LOTS of evergreen trees and not many buildings. We walked to the neighbours house, which took a looong time for a 7yr old(Im estimating about 5 miles), & I know there were other people in "town". Also, I remember a lake and a river at the top of the hill we were on but it was frozen because of snow. Then, like, 2 or 3 months later we went back there & it was pouring rain everywhere! But we picked up the people we were going for & drove to the beach...it seemed like a long trip at the time but I'm pretty sure it was only maybe an hour & a half. PLEASE, if ANYONE knows where this place is, let me know!!!! I've been trying to figure it out so I can go back. Please no rude or pointless answers either. Thanks.

i dont think anyone will be able to make an exact name of a place from the description youve given us. you must have been with family old enough to remember who they were with. All of you together should be able to recall were you were.

What a great memory! I hope you can figure it out. It sounds like a similar childhood memory of mine. My guess is that it is Big Bear, California. Parts of the lake freeze. I remember "ice skating" in my shoes near the docks where we used to fish for blue gale fish. There are several streams that flow into the lake year round. The pine trees are big and the town used to be small. There was a great sweet smell in the spring and huge sugar pine cones everywhere. It's more like a 2-3 hour drive to the beach. If this is not the place, you should at least go! It's a great town. Every season offers something unique and inviting!

Good luck on jogging your memory!

The only place in Southern CA with evergreen trees are in the mountains. Look around the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains. Also maybe it was Big Bear Lake, Lake Arrowhead, or Silverwood. If you follow this link below then click on "Bird's Eye View" (the little icon with the 3-d buildings) and you can get a good look at the area to see if its familiar. You can also scroll around if this is not the area and look at other mountainous areas. But I think most likley you were somehwere in the mountains b/c that's the only place I know of with Evergreen forests in SoCal. Anyways, good luck finding what you're looking for.

There are not many lakes that ice over in the winter so it would have to be in the mountains.

It could be Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear Mountain in the San Bernadino Mountains. Another place it could have been is Idyllwild which is in the San Jacinto Mountains closer to Palm Springs. Although I don't remember any major lakes, but there are some smaller ones scattered througout.

Are you sure it was So Cal and not someplace more northerly like Mammoth area?

Previous posters are correct, it could only be San Bernardino Mountains, Big Bear, Arrowhead or surrounds.

There's no one around you could ask?

I had a similar problem, there was a place I went to when I was about 8. I though it was Phoenix but I asked my mother and turns out it was Indiana! Memories are funny things.

It definitely sounds like Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead to me. Do you remember ski resorts there??
