Today I had, at work, what I believe to be an "optic nerve" migraine. I had no pain whatsoever but all of a sudden I experienced a strange sensation in my left eye. One side of it became distorted with blurry, colored lines. They were reds, blues, and yellows and sort of zig-zaggy in the left half of my eye. It became increasingly worse, so much so that I couldn't really see out of that eye. I took some aspirin and it only lasted about 30 minutes. There was no pain involved but it sure was strange. I researched it a bit on the internet and it seems to be called "migraine with aura." I have had it happen to me before and feel fairly certain that it is quite common and nothing too serious.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Migraines are painful. I suffer from them and I get the color thing. The colors change with the intensity of the pain...it's as if the pain has a color.

Yes. I used to get migraines a lot (usually around my period). I always knew when a migraine was coming because I would have distorted vision (like what you experienced). First came the blurred vision then came the PAIN. If I took aspirin or Tylenol at the first sign of blurred vision, often that would stop the migraine right then.

A lot of things can trigger migraines (lights, foods, smells, working on a computer all day, hormone changes, too little sleep), but now you know how to stop it in it's tracks.

horrible! It's called a "scintillating scotoma" and it's a precursor to an optic migraine. Brought on by too much stress mixed with computer usage (not kidding). Sometimes just when the shape gets really large and blocks out the vision, then you get the horrible pain. Sometimes no pain, but it's very annoying. Mine came and went for a year. When I graduated college they stopped. The following website has a "picture" of one.

You need to see a doctor. He will do many tests on your eyes. I had something simular and turns out I had a detatched retna. Get it checked.

I freak when my eye is twitching. I don't know how you stuck that out without leaving work to go to a doctor. Sometimes if you let things go untreated the condition can worsen. Please go see a doctor!!
