I'd rather live my life as if there is a God and find out that there isn't, than to live my life like there is no God and find out that there is. I believe that the bible is the written word of God, inspired by Him and written down for Him. You say:"The bible was written by men who desired to control the masses through fear". Is this your personal opinion, or do you have a reference book or something that can prove your statement? I BELIEVE!!

Well, I don't believe it is the word of god, but I also don't believe it was written by men who desired to control the masses through fear.
I think the "old testament" is the history of the jewish people, as written by them, and it includes much of their mythology.
The new testament is much more spurious in origin.. the compilation was voted upon by men who desired to control the masses (constantine and the council of nicea) and to unite the roman empire.
I believe there was an ark of the covenant (which looks extremely similar to Isis' box)..btw, jews don't believe in Hell. That's a Greek concept.

I believe we need both the holy spirit and God's word. But here are some scriptures of what is said... For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the scriptures we may have hope. Romans 15:4 All Scripture is God - breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2Timothy 3:16 and most importantly, remember the meaning of the Word of God really is...its Christ. read John 1. I dont need a term to tell me God's word has everything i need to live a life according to what he has called, and the holy spirit to help me discern it.

I beg to differ strongly! People's interpretation of hell may vary and I am not in the position to say what or where hell is. However, life is just too complex to believe that things happened by accident. I truly believe there is a Creator and that he controls everything. I believe that there may be documented proof that there was an Ark.....but I cannot confirm this!

Much of the Bible is fiction, but certain parts of the Bible was written by men or women who were divinely inspired. It's hard not to believe in the 10 Commandments.

The Bible is the true and inerrant Word of God. Believe and Live for Christ. If there are errors in the Bible no one would be able to be saved. The scriptures are the inspired Word of God given to men to write. If you don't believe in the Bible you don't believe in God.
God bless

The Bible was God inspired. The men who wrote it were the vessels God chose to use to write it.
There was an ark. Scientists have found pieces of it.

My best friend alerted me to all the horrible cruelty depicted in the bible. I also think it was written by men who advocated rape and murder at every turn, even amongst your own family! I really want to believe in a kind and benevolent God but I just don"t know any more.

It's neither, actually. It's a collection of writings of various people in the Jewish tradition and one of its first century offshoots.
Through this writing they tried to describe their personal experience of transcendence. All cultures that have writing produce such a literature. It's a mixture of myth, poetry, oral history, legend, philosophy and ethics.
It would be difficult to understand without taking into account the historical and cultural context of the people who wrote it.
