Professionally: Technically, yes they have to tell your parents. Teachers, like many other professions, are what's called a mandated reporter. This means that they have to report any sort of suspected abuse or they can be held liable for withholding the information.

Personally: You should tell someone, even if it is your teacher. The fact that you are considering telling someone means that you are open to the idea of getting help.

Good luck to you.

Yes, and the reason for this is liability. If, say, you were a cutter and the teacher knew about it and didn't tell anyone then you offed yourself, they'd be wide open to lawsuits.

You can't ever tell anyone that you cut yourself. You just have to talk about the reasons you cut yourself, but without admitting to doing cutting. If anyone asks, tell them it was a cat. If you don't, you'll wind up in a looney bin for at least 24 hours for observation.

They're obligated to warn authorities if you're in danger of harming yourself or others.

That could mean your parents.

That could mean a social worker.

It depends on what you agree to do about cutting yourself. If you say, well, don't tell my parents, but I'll go to therapy or see the counselor...I'm still not sure they wouldn't tell your parents.

You can talk to whomever you want without parental permission.

But if you tell them, they're obligated to tell somebody in authority about it. And that might be your parents, unless you have a very good reason for them not to tell them.

If you're a minor, you don't have the same rights as an adult. Get help...but you might not like all the people that get told. Discuss your concerns with whomever you tell, and you might be able to avoid discussing it with your parents, if that's truly the best course of action.

I'm glad you're asking about options, for yourself or whomever you're asking about. It's important to get help, as soon as possible. It's not a secret anybody should keep all to him- or herself.

I was a cutter--I still feel like doing it sometimes. But meds and therapy have helped me control my urges, and they can help others, too.

You are asking two different questions. As for the first question they should be contacting your parents if you are cutting yourself. Second, you don't need your parents permission to talk to your teacher - although I am confused by what you mean as "personally."

Good Luck!!!

Sorry buddy, if you are still a minor they have to tell your parents. My suggestion is to not tell your teacher. I used to cut myself A LOT. It will go away with time. As you get emotionally stronger and more able to deal with the issues that make you cut yourself, you will stop. Cutting yourself, at least for me, is a way to feel something, anything!... other than numbness, sadness and anger. It will subside, I promise.

reducing/self harm behaviour is a manner that some human beings look after their issues. that would sound unusual, yet those human beings get a style of alleviation from doing it. issues, melancholy, stress, are quite trouble-free to hide at the back of a grin, sending the message that each thing is okay, whilst its no longer. Its no longer trouble-free to get human beings to comprehend basically how undesirable we sense now and back, despite how lots we tell them. Self harm, (even anorexia nonetheless diverse) would be a thank you to sense on top of problems with ways we are feeling, whilst the discomfort is controlled via the guy themselves. some very proffessional human beings use self harm to regulate their emotions, and nonetheless carry down sturdy jobs and overall performance properly in on a daily basis existence. Self harm is to no longer be perplexed with suicide tries. whilst they have cut back/harm, they sense greater valuable. If this lady is exhibiting her scars, properly perchance she basically dosnt care if human beings see, or perchance she desires somebody to word that she is going via a foul time. whilst human beings say she is after interest, properly confident yet no longer in a drama queen way, heavily if it grew to become into basically interest searching for reducing is an extremely drastic thank you to get interest. as quickly as we are suffering, generally we choose somebody to ascertain how lots we are hurting. She would o.k. 'enhance out of it', some human beings do. Im specific her kinfolk and close acquaintances are conscious, and could be assisting her to provide up. ultimate difficulty to do isn't make a huge difficulty approximately it, yet once you are able to, basically prepare her that she does matter, which you care, and furnish help in case you sense. once you quite think of roughly how all of us cope in yet in a diverse way for the time of perplexing cases, its no longer so unusual, it basically seems slightly frightening once you dont comprehend it.

I am not a lawyer, but think about this in reverse.

Suppose your teacher doesn't tell your parents. Suppose you injure yourself, and your parents discover that your teacher knew what happened and didn't tell them. Suppose your parents then sue your teacher. Do you think your parents would win the lawsuit? I do.

So, if I were a teacher, I would tell your parents, whether it is required by law or not.

Teachers are required by law to inform your parents of anything that might be potentially hazardous to your health. Just like some things they are required by law to report to the authorities (like suspected child abuse)... they don't have a choice unless they want to take a chance on losing their job.

There is no teacher/student confidentiality. They WILL tell anybody anything about you, and anyone else they want to talk to about you. In fact they will probably consider it their "duty" to snitch on you! Why do you want to confess your dirty little secret? You obviously want someone to know...are you screaming for attention? Show-off! Cut your self for the addreniline rush...but keep it to yourself...if you want to empress someone try your mother.
