I am trying to get the demographics for the show im starting to write. Its about 6 high school friends(3 guys 3 girls) and their daily lives, school, work, dating, parents, etc...The cast is predominantly ethnic:african americans, hispanics, asians etc.. but it will also have white characters too.

I also want to work martial arts choreography into it.( Think more mature like Buffy not kiddie like Power Rangers)

I am going to keep it from being too ethnic which would turn away some veiwers but it would have a sense of urban life to it.

If you can please tell me if you would or wouldnt be interested in watching the show and add your ethnicity, gender, and age.

Best Answer would be the person who answers my question but also gives adequate details on their stance.

Thank You.

Ok..its not going to be as much as a high school drama as comedy if that makes a difference. More along the lines of That 70s Show, Fresh Prince of Belaire ect...less of a serious tone.

Its like if you read or watch The Boondocks the creator, Aaron McGruder, is interested in martial arts, anime, ect...so he incorprates a fight scene into some of the episodes.

"The Trial of R. Kelly" R Kelly goes on trail for his sex tapes and a riot breaks out outside the courtroom.

"Granddad's Fight" The grandfather wants to fight another person and Huey trains him in martial arts.(Has references to Zatoichi)

"Let's Nab Oprah" in my opinion was great. Huey fought Riley because he was plotting to kidnap Oprah and Huey later has to fight Oprah's bodyguard

I have to disagree with you Roger. I see martial arts falling into any number of these categories:self-defense philosphy combat/sport and performance(i guess what you call showing off). My father is more traditional taking up aikido and has the same mindset not fighting unless he absolutely has to. Ive been in thai boxing and that is more of a sport krav maga more of selfdefense capoeira/tkd performance im also interested in softarts too 4 philosophy. Some ma are for "showing off" becuz some moves in wushu/tkd/capoeira definitely arent anything u can pull off in the streets. if you ever watched a martial arts film then i dont see how you cant see it 2 also be for performance.
anways yea its gonna be hard to find an angle to intergrate it in without being cheesy but i have to do something different to get my idea out there

check out http://www.zgmain.com they combine fights with funny scenerios to tell a story which involves fightin over cds lotto tickets and the repo man

So basically you are making and ethnic version of an adult power rangers show? I'm thinking this isnt going very far.

The show as far as the teen's lives are concerned has been done on MTV already.... or Laguna beach as well. And the Martial arts... I dont really see how it would play into the show other than a power ranger knock off.... which would detract from the shows purpose... what ever that may be?

I might watch this show it would take alot of effort to make it something thats not like all the other typical shows on tv. I'm not into teen drama things and the kinda people that are arent into martial arts (for the most part). Also I dont see how you could put martial arts as a regular thing into the story you describe maybe you could make one of the people an underground fighter or something i dont know .As for putting martial arts in the show there are 3 things you need to remember alot!

1. dont do that annoying thing where you have a different person do a stunt and then cut back to the actor. That is by far the lamest most annoying this I see in TV shows and it basicly says "this fight scene is lame"

2. keep good camera angles on the fight. Alot of people like to shake around the camera to make it look more "realistic". All this does is make it look really weird and confusing. If you keep a good view usualy by the side the scene looks way better.

3. Get some good martial artists. If you dont have any in your crew you should find some.TV shows that try to fake martial arts dont do it well. you should either try to train the people replace them or get a choreographer at least

you need to add a couple more white characters. dont try and make it too ethnic. i mean this show should be like in real life, where there are african americans, hispanics, and asians, but there are whites too. i think it would be cheesy to add martial arts unless some of the characters are on a martial arts team or something. other than that it sounds like a great show! i'm white, female, 15 years old.

Its gonna turn out looking cheesy and adding martial arts in it is going to make it more cheese I don't think you or your friends know the true philosophy behind martial arts other wise you wouldn't be putting it in your drama/comedy. Let me break that philosophy down for you in three rules RULE 1: Martial Arts is fore defense only RULE 2: Martial arts is not for showing off RULE 3: memorize rules 1 and 2. Also what message are you hoping to put out by the plot of the show. If you are going to do this leave martial arts out of it.

I'm 42, white, male. The only way I might watch the show is if the girls were hot and you could choreograph realistic fight scenes. I don't find the concept that appealing.

Ethnicity - mixed
Gender - male
Age - 34

It sounds like it would totally miss my age group, but I'd be willing to give it a try. When do you go into production ???
